A couple of years ago I bought some cheap Dunlop golf balls from Sports Direct to take on holiday, on the basis that I would lose a lot in water hazards. I was surprised at how soft they felt off the club face and at how they would spin and grip on the greens over in the Algarve. I was even more surprised at how they performed on our much firmer greens back home.

Despite the strange looks that I get from playing partners when I announce on the first tee that I'm using a Dunlop.....I've been using them ever since! getmecoat
Good on ya! I've used Dunlop DP1 golf balls for 2 years and they're very good balls!

Can anyone recommend me a high spinning ball that won't scuff too easily? Not really wanting to pay Pro V1 money. I did use Srixon AD333's last summer but fancy a change. Have been using Titleist DT solos recently and don't really get on with them that well. Budget of around £15-£20 for a dozen.
Have a look in American Golf, last time I was in they had 12 Refurbished Pro V1's for £20. I picked some up and they seem to play identically to normal Pro V1's, at half the price.

I tried refurbished V1's but they were inconsistent, I buy used ones at £15 for 30 balls and they play as good as new.

I have heard mixed reviews of 'refurbished balls'. They look like new but don't last and are inconsistent, I'm not even sure if you can guarantee that they are Pro V1s or whatever. I think lake balls are a better bet.

My PW is 46 (I assume so anyway as the standard is 44 and ive had 2 degrees added)

IS it worth getting fitted like the irons. I will speak with my local pro once hes back in the uk but canvasing opinion for now.

Heard very good things about Cleveland wedges?

I've tried a few different brand of wedges and i can honestly say, the Titleist Vokey wedges are head and shoulders above almost everything I've tried. Although the Cleveland wedges my mate has from last year are pretty decent, i'd still always go for the Vokey if i had a choice. Although they are expensive. I'd assume you wouldn't need to be fitted to wedges as a general rule as most of the time they're used around greens / in bunkers. Do a bit of research on bounce and work out what will suit you best. Unless of course you're 6ft 8 and swing the club like Joe Miller wink

Must admit I hadn't noticed, but I only use them for practice rounds, and have only used 2 so far smile Normally use Nike 20XI's for comps, think they've been replaced by the RZN now, so you should be able to find some 20XI's cheap, and they are a cracking golf ball - seem to perform better than Pro V1's ime.

That is using almost 100% Nike clubs though, so YMMV.

I would recommend getting fitted if you're serious. Titleist offer about 3 or 4 different grind options for their wedges before you even consider loft and lie etc.

I didn't take my own advice and have a lovely set of Mizuno MP-R12s in 52(6), 56(13) and 60(8) but I think I would have got better results with a custom fit. There is someone on eBay selling them for £40 each at the moment but options are a bit limited, still, a great price for a £90 wedge.

I've got three vokey wedges now. 52(8), 56(12) and 60(8). I paid no more than £35 for any of them second hand on eBay, they're all in decent nick and I'm very happy with them. I plan on adding a 48 soon to complete my set up.

They really are excellent IMO and well worth seeking some out on the second hand market.

Snip snip snip!

Well done.

92 for me on the tougher course at my club. Howling wind. I hit 5i into a 150yd elevated tee par 3. I was pin high with a front pin. That would have been 20 yards through the back with no wind.

I also 4 putted the 12th. The first was a long slippery downhiller that I didn't want to go far past and left 3ft short. I was right not to want it past the hole as I barely touched the next one and it trundled 10ft past laugh

Picked up a new driver at the weekend so will be testing that out in the next day or so. Grabbed an Aeroburner from Ebay as I want to sell off the Hippo starter set. The better half wouldn't allow two sets in the house so the crappy clubs have to go and ill fill the gaps from Ebay till I have the required high funds for some new gear to go with my irons.

Regarding wedges. Whats the crack with rusted vs polished finish. Anyone have a preference?

Vokeys all seem to be polished were as the Trusty Rusty is as the name says?

I've got a rusted finish Vokey wedge. They call it 'oil can' and it rusts after a few uses. Doesn't affect the club at all but i do regret not going for a polished finish as my 60 and 56 look odd next to each other. I had my 60 before my 56.

Going down to bramshaw for 3 days of golf on thursday and cannot wait. Even having a little warm up round and then a pitch and putt round tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm determined to retain the trophy we play for wink

Anyone watch the final day of the Players at the weekend? Cracking, edge of the seat finish to it and Sawgrass played it's part again. Nice to see Ricky finally win a big one. woohoo

Pretty excited at the moment.

Fly to Spain on Wednesday to stay here:

To play at the two courses they have -

http://www.1golf.eu/en/club/villaitana-golf/

http://www.golfbreaks.com/levante-golf-course

Can't wait now!
Got back from here on Sunday.

Superb mini break. The longer course was pretty long but nice and playable. The shorter course - (par 63) was a tough little bugger, lots of elevated teas, raised greens, great big ravines just at driving distance.

Hotel is cracking, really nice location - and only 10 euros from the chaos of Benidorm for the evening.

For a beginner like myself it was a pretty damn good holiday, although I only managed to score 26 points in each round I played. The courses were nice and relaxed though, no-one hitting balls towards you, a nice pace of play. Decent buggies, good facilities, cold beer.

It was a cracker. I would have loved Sergio to win it, but you just knew as soon as it went to a playoff it wouldn't be his day. Putting let him down again. 15 missed from inside 10ft over the 72 holes.

As much as I don't like Fowler, you have to hand it to him. Incredible stuff. Took the pin on 3 times in a row on 17 and hit it close every time.

I like Fowler and an happy he won, especially after being rated most overrated player on tour!
