Ping won't repair my driver FOC - chargeable it's not really worth it.

Looks like it's a new driver smile

Anyone used the G20 or the G25? - small price difference at the moment - and Directgolf have got the G25 at £179 plus a further 15% off this weekend which drops it down to Golfbidder prices for a brand new club.

G25 is a great driver - currently still have the 9.5 in stiff flex that I'm looking to sell if you're interested?

It's a very forgiving driver and incredibly long when you hit it properly!

Hmmm i'm tempted....however I've got a slowish swing, and would normally go 10.5 with regualr flex - you'll probably know better than me how much difference it's likely to make I think.

Drop me a PM if you like?

Hi Guys
I thought I would finally post on the thread as I'm currently morphing from Tennis to Golf!
Very much at the beginning, had twelve lessons on the range and course and have played two full rounds with a friend (115 and 112). Just had a nine hole lesson/round with the pro and it went pretty well with one par, five bogeys, one double bogey and one I'd rather forget! Last hole however was a birdie and cheered me up no end.
One problem I have and would appreciate some observations on, I can use my driver pretty much OK eight out of ten times, irons are about the same when easy lie but worse when awkward, however I have two "Hybrid Ping G32" clubs which I cannot hit at all? and I mean 24 out of 25 shots go off at various angles all over the place or I even miss completely!
Has anyone else had the same? I reckon I now have a complete mental block as the Pro cannot see why I can't hit with the damn things.
I read all your posts with interest and look forward to getting more into the game.
Cheers
Nick

If they are presenting you with a problem, just leave them out for now. Yes, mastering a hybrid might be necessary to get you from 10 down to 5, but you don't need them now.

If you can get off the tee and hit a steady 5 iron, then the only thing keeping you from playing to 18 is a solid short game.

Great golfers, good golfers, ok-ish golfers, and mediocre golfers ALL hit 75% of their shots from within 100 yards. That's what you need to be good at.

Only totally useless golfers hit more of their shots from outside that sort of distance, and you're already not a totally useless golfer. smile

Being able to rely on wedge and 2 putts with 50+ % reliability will make you a reasonable golfer.

Wedge + one putt 20% of the time, and wedge +two putts 60% of the time will make you a good golfer, in a club context.

The rest is garnish.

I'd never had a hybrid until late last year. Now I've got two which have replaced my 4 and 3 irons and love them! Compared to a steel shafted iron they feel very light and therefore respond better to a slower swing. So try swinging easier when hitting one off the grass. And if using one off a tee, tee it low like you would an iron rather than high when teeing up for a wood shot.

Thanks both, I probably gave myself hassles I could do without as I bought the clubs second-hand on the advise of them being a good buy from the Pro who is teaching me at the club.
As you say I think I will concentrate on playing with the clubs I feel relaxed with and leave the Hybrids at home!

How you make your way down the fairway doesn't really matter. Whether you can hit a 3 wood off the deck or can't hit anything longer than a 5 iron doesn't really matter either.

What matters is putting yourself within a short iron of the green and with a good lie, then getting down in 3. If you can do that with any kind of regularity, you'll be hard to beat.

Had a cracking lesson at the weekend. Still work to do my game as always but happy with my short short game. Added a nice 60degree wedge to my bag too and really enjoying that club. My pro is more than happy with how quickly my swing gets the ball to slow up when it gets on the green too.

Hmmm..... if you're usually hitting a regular shaft then I think you'd need to try a stiff before you bought anything.

You can adjust it up to 10 degrees.

A couple of the guys at the club are interested - if they don't buy it I'll let you know!

Yeah I figured the same, so went got all excited yesterday and took Direct-golf up on their offer - £150 I got it for in the end, which seems reasonable. Thanks for the offer though.

It's waiting for me at home...... smile

How much are you looking for? I broke something inside my R11 last week and now it rattles, so I might be looking to replace it.

£100 plus postage? It's in excellent condition (was brand new in October and I haven't used it since getting the G30 a month ago). Will keep you posted!

Quick FYI - that'll be the 'thread' from the changeable weights. The metal they used in the housing for the weights isn't as robust as the screws on the weights. It's metal shavings that'll be rattling inside your driver. I had the same issue, drove me round the bend. Ended up giving it to my dad and getting a different driver!

I don't think it's anything to do with the weights TBH. I checked them out and they look fine. It just went on the first tee last week. No rattle at all, then hit my shot and it made a strange sound. Then there was something that sounded like a fairly big chunk of metal rolling around in there.

The pro in our club shop reckons it's part of the adjustment collar that's broken off and dropped inside. It'll never come out, and if I take the shaft out it might not go back in again frown

Sadly I think it's just one of those things with adjustable drivers - my Nike Covert makes all sorts of worrying noises if you use it in cold temperatures - American Golf have assured me it's normal and it's just the plastic in the hosel contracting in the cold.

As I adjusted it once then put it back as I found it I might go for a fixed driver next time, if any are still available. However despite the worrying noises the Covert is excellent so am in no rush to change. Especially as Nike have dropped the red finish from the Vapor range.

I have finally started to get back into golf after an almost 20 year break. I last played regularly in my early 20's, this dropped to maybe a handful of times a year during the remainder of my 20's and dropped again to the odd driving range visit when in my 30's, up to the current day, I'm now 38. At 20, I was playing off 16.

So, back into golf as a good friend has persuaded me to take part in a charity match in July. This is just the kick I needed to get me going again. Last Saturday, trip to local golf centre to swing a few clubs through a couple of buckets of balls and came away with some new Cobra Fly Z irons, ping driver, bag, trousers, gloves, shoes, balls, trolley, towel, etc. etc....

Sunday I was back at my local range for 100 balls, again last night for another 100 balls and I wasn't quite as rusty as I had expected to be, then a call today, do I fancy 18 holes after work, around Beverley? Of course, what could go wrong.......5700 yards, par 69....I'll be chuffed if I can get near 100.

So this evening will be my first 18 holes in at least ten years, maybe longer. I'm looking forward to it, but also a little worried. I'll feed back with how I get on tomorrow.

There is a fixed Vaper driver coming out very soon. Its a TW branded Vapor Pro I think. Fixed to 10.5 if Im remembering correctly.

Adjustable drivers are mainly useful for the fitter rather than the golfer and, in my opinion, the fitter should have sufficient stock and equipment to be able to create clubs to fit you anyway.

Having said that, it is useful when you are making swing changes to be able to keep the same driver and easily make changes to loft/lie etc. without having to buy a new club or get it re-bent etc.
