i had a scotty for a few years, and they are great putters but i have moved to a odyessy fang counter balanced putter and will never go back to a traditional putter. By far the most important club in the bag if you want to lower your HC.

Scotty have a dual weight putter in there range

Cheers for all the links guys, I will investigate further!

The Dual Balance putters look interesting, I'll have to have a go with one.

To me they are amazing, it basically works a bit like a balance pole. With me using a traditional putter from around 6feet I would find I couldn't produce a smooth takeaway and could literally watch the putter 'wriggle' back and not go back smooth and straight through.

With the weight above your hands and also in the head it is a lot smoother. On my putter I can also change the weights to suit the speed of the greens.

Mine cost £100 of fleabay, best money I have ever spent, try the concept then upgrade to the scotty version.

Time for a set of new irons I think. I've had my Taylormade 200 irons for around 15 years now and they've always been faithful. I bought a set of Titleist 735 CM irons a few years ago but could never get on with them so went back to the Taylormade 200s.

So for the change I'm thinking Taylormade Speed blades or their latest RSi1 irons. Anyone using or have thoughts on these? Or maybe recommend some others that would be worth trying out?

BTW handicap is 14.

I use Wilson staff FG forged irons. Semi blades with a slight cavity, but in all honesty you can't see it at address. They're cheap if you can get a set too. So under-rated IMO. (I'm a similar handicap, float between 12-14). Be warned, they are billed as 'low flighted' irons. So if you struggle to get the ball in the air, they might not be best for you.

The only irons I've hit that felt better were Mizuno MP-4 irons. Best advice, get to your local pro and try as many as you can. Don't be sucked in by marketing or advertising. But decide now if you want/need game improvement irons or 'Players' irons. That'll help save time when at the range. If your ball striking is good, get forged clubs. Nothing feels better!

That's an interesting reply. Thanks. The Titleist 735 cms were a forged blade that graduated through to a full cavity as they progressed from PW to 3. With a perfect (for me) strike they were wonderful albeit nearly a club shorter than the Taylormade 200s. However, as perfect strikes are rare for me, my iron play became very inconsistent with them. Hence I went back to the 200s which are much more forgiving. This makes me think that the forged blade style Wilsons and Mizunos you mention might do the same.

I'll definitely be trying before buying and most likely have them customized by our club pro so that they suit my posture.

I can't look past Mizuno whenever I think about Irons. Maybe look at something like the MP-54.

I'd look at:

Ping i25 (because I have them and love them!)
Ping S55
Mizuno, possibly the JPX850 Forged or the MP-54's
Titleist AP2's
Callaway XR (these are new out and look lovely!)

If I'm honest, I'm not a big Taylormade fan.

good selection there.

I loved my Ping ISI nickel, and especially my Ping S58's
Now have the AP2's and love them

Never been a fan of TM, too blingy for me and i don't think the quality is great.

Thanks for all the ideas fellas. smile

Spent a good couple of hours with the Pro today trying out irons.

Callaway X2Hot - wanted to try these as I love the driver I bought last year. The irons gave a higher ball than mine but they didn't wow me.

Cobra Amp cell - felt light and snatchy. Hardly hit a good shot with it. Shame because they're selling them off at £250 a set!

Mizuno MP54 - I was very inconsistent with these and sprayed the balls about. Not forgiving enough for me but from the good strikes I can see why better golfers would love them.

Taylormade speedblade - at least half a club longer than my current irons and very forgiving. However very little feedback from the strike - a good shot felt the same as a bad shot. Felt very wooden!

Mizuno JPX 850 - second best iron for me of the lot. Nice ball flight, a whisker longer than I'm used to and very forgiving on poor strikes. Was close to choosing these.

Taylormade RSi1 - a great looking iron at address, penetrating ball flight and the longest of all the irons I tried (close to a club longer than I'm used to). Fantastic feedback from the face on good strikes and very forgiving on the poor strikes. Hardly hit a bad shot with this one! The winner.

With the decision made we then spent another half an hour customizing the RSi1 irons for me. This turned out to be; regular steel shafts, 1 cm shorter, standard grip thickness and most importantly an extra 1 degree flat on the lie. With these changes made it was amazing how the marks on the face tape (used to record the strike) were concentrated in the middle. Just got to wait for delivery now.

Oh, BTW. After paying up, the pro said mine were the third set of RSi1 irons he'd sold this week.

Any thoughts or opinions on Tiger's latest withdrawal?

He's 39 now I think, and tbh I cant see him winning another major with Rory, Scott, Kaymer and a few other young guns coming through.

In his pomp he was/is probably better than Nicklaus, but dont think the numbers will reflect that.

I don't think he will ever fully recover, it was embarrassing to watch and the poor people who have to play with him.

It is amazing how things can change, he used to be invisible and now he is fluffing and thinning shots like me!

He does not have a clue what is going on and claims he is between swing planes on a chip, bks! He has had so many coaches he doesn't know what to do. I reckon he is such a nightmare to work for nobody wants to work for him. Would Butch Harmon take him back, would he have him back?

His body is well and truly knackered, Glutes seizing up due to the delay in start? There must be some serious issues going on there and all that shagging has played havoc with his back.

I don't think Harmon needs Woods as much as he did, but hearing some of his comments about Tigers current swing problems on Sky over the weekend, I could see Harmon saying yes if asked. I also think he's about the only coach that could sort out his swing and not pander to his ego.

Although I've never really been a Tiger fan, its a shame to see his current problems on the course, but on the other hand, happy he looks very unlikely to break Jack's major record, as TBH I don't think he's a better player.

Thanks guys. All of these putters look lovely - however where can I see them, try them, and get fitted for them, in the UK? I do actually want to be able to use it to play golf with! hehe

100% agree with everything you say.

Watching him play on Thursday I fear that his body will no longer hold up. Even Butch would not be cable of building him swing that would prevent him from hurting himself. I think he's crossed the line of no return.

I agree too, I think he's done.

And I can't see him soldiering on either. Retired within 1-2 years. Maybe an ill-fated, boredom-related comeback in a few years after that.

His ego won't let him finish 80th every week for very long. The cheque won't even fuel the Learjet.
