I was hoping the swimming thread was active for the British Champs. Stunning swims from Peaty, Keanna to beat Stephens and the young phenom Ollie Morgan.

Having got back into the water last year to put some semi serious swimming time down, I’ve rather surprised myself this yr by keeping it going. And er, I appear to have become a distance swimmer. This is as much a shock to me as anyone! Swims are now a solid 30mins per block. It’s usually after 30 or 60mins in the gym, so the first 5mins tend to just be easing out the muscles, but I’m reasonably enjoying it.

With the advent of spring, next month should see us back in the sea pool at Bude. May ranges from 12 to 17C which rash vest to trunks temps. At 90m long, it can be an interesting swim! I’m not home enough this month to get in and it was snowing last week!

Oh and PB, jolly well done to kid smile Good work!

Anyone see the 100 Free?
Richards from Scott from Dean.

They go again on Sunday in the 200 Free…

Go on then, who had us down for having 3 of best crawlers in the world only a few yrs ago?!

We've got some real depth now, both women and men and at the younger ages as well. I mean junior lads going sub 50 for a hundy long was unheard of in my day. I have no problem admitting that I'd have had a very serious run for my money in the junior girls 50 free! It's amazing to see.

Just watched the final of the hundred free, Mr Scott knows how to dig deep does he? Fantastic swim and it's not even his main event!

Oh I'm a proper Duncan fanboy, the dude is so good. 200 IM final was an absolutely sublime. He hasn't got a weak stroke, breaststroke leg looked powerful.

Mens 100 fly wasn't too sharp, no one hit the time and after all the talk of taking the heats steady, James Guy comes 5th and swims slower than the heats. Truth be told I thought he'd retired so was surprised to see him swimming to be honest.

I also thought he’d retired!!

Tell you what though Otis, 100m Medley relay in Paris, do you want to bet against Scott on the anchor Free leg? Best finisher in the world?
Fly is our weakest event, Ollie looks like he can probably hold against everyone else on back. I know you think/thought Peaty was busted, but is taking 0.5/1.0 secs out of everybody on the relay. He is psychotic. Then you got to put Scott in to do his finisher thing. I’m going to be genuinely optimistic and say I don’t think anybody is going to get close. Aussies, Yanks and the French with Marchand.

Yeah, like I said, I think I have to eat my hat on Peaty. Having watched his races earlier in the year it really looked like his head & heart weren't in it. Tardy starts, not first to the 50, the famous staying power on the last 25 missing. But he's absolutely turned it around, like night and day. That was the old Adam and those swims have got to be boosting his confidence. Hopefully that momentum can be built upon now and I hope he/his team keep him away from all the media hype because I already see articles about the "Three-Peat". It's not necessary.

4 x 100 IM relay is definitely going to be spicy and Adam and Duncan can definitely be counted on for some relay-team x-factor. Get a good bunch of guys together and it's absolutely amazing what they can do for each other when it counts. Often greater than the sum of their parts (the best example being Jason Lezak on the 4x100 Free relay in 2008. That bloke swam out of his skin to get Michael that 8th Gold.... yet he never quite got there for himself!).

Oh and that’s before we even get to the Freestyle relays!
Gonna be spicy central !

Unfortunately the French have figured this out and priced the pool sessions accordingly. Getting a seat to watch any of this stuff is at the same Unobtanium level as a ticket to watch Dupont and the rugby XIIs frown

The Lezak swim is the most astounding thing I have seen in swimming - his split was 46.06, about a second quicker than the WR at the time.
I was watching a YT video and apprarently swimming next to someone can help as you "ride" the wave. I think if Bernard moved away from the lane line Lezak doesn't catch him.

The UK mens freestyle is very strong now - 30 swimmers under 48, good shout for Paris medal.
Popovici seems off the boil, but Pan has now pushed the WR down to 46.8, I think China has a strong team with him and probably 3 other sub 48 guys

Proud is so good. His heat was amazing, he looked like he was swimming half speed and still went 21.7.

Men's medley relay? If someone had gone a 50 on the 100 fly, maybe, but I don't think gold for that one as much. Who does the free leg will depend on the individual - Richards has consistently beaten Scott on 100 free, is GB record holder and performs on relays too. If he is faster than Duncan on the individual, it would be difficult not to swim him. If China have a 51 second fly swimmer, I think it's between them and the US as they have Xiayu on the back, Qin on the breast and Pan on free. We could be on for a bronze.

Ollie Morgan is an absolute monster!
200 back, 150 and Morgan isn’t even placed. Blows everyone away in the last 50. Sub 1’56.3 so a second below the Olympic qual standard.

Be interesting to see the Aussies go! I think the Yanks are soon as well.

Roll on Paris.

Indeed - we’ve got Olympic and Paralympic Trials 10-16 June, so this Open is very much about staking a claim to be there…
