The Oval - Food?

I'm taking my dad to the ODI with New Zealand on June 12th for his birthday.
I've not been for so many years I'm out of touch with the facilities. When I booked the tickets I noticed the 'picnic' option which seemed steep at £24 per person.
Are there good food facilities within the ground (sandwiches etc) or should I be pre-purchasing one of these picnic things. Also, I always used to take my own packed lunch in the past, are you still allowed to take food in?

Been a while since I went but have always taken our own food + as much booze as we could sneak in (bottle of wine on top for "inspection", four pack buried at the bottom of the bag). I sure the catering facilities there are fine but probably not the greatest value.

I think that's about the size of it!So inject fruits repeatably and carefully (not too deeply) the night before and store fruits in a cold fridge.
Just before traveling to the ground slice up melons & oranges and put into zip-lock freezer bags. Put all into an Aldi carrier bag along with a few bags of ice. Throw over a few bagged ham and cucumber sarnies, a load of pork pies, maybe the odd scotch egg and cooked sausage too etc.
Don't drive to the ground, eat fruit & food and enjoy your day.
(You can bite the corners off the zip-lock bags and suck out all the lovey fruit juice ala Bear Grylls style too)

"Watermelon wine" especially prepared with a nice crisp Sauvignon Blanc is pretty good when chilled under ice. I don't recommend this technique with Theakston's or Fuller's offerings though. The obligatory ham and cucumber sarnies accompanied with a few pork pies are however utterly essential!

The Sauvignon option sounds promising!!!Since the rules changed at Edgbaston, I have thoroughly enjoyed T20 matches with a bottle of Claret finely decanted into a robinsons barley water bottle - works every time, though maybe the kids in attendence helped smooth any issues ??!! Will have to try the Fruit this year. Though the most ridiculous cases of alcohol smuggling has to be at Cornbury Festival where loaves of bread were all inspected as there was a prevalence of pinot grigio being smuggled in Waitrose(naturally) Bloomers............
