If you had to bet your life on a sports person's performance

Bradman. He's got better stats than anyone else that has ever played the game by an absolutely ludicrous margin. His test batting average is 99....only three players who have played the game in the last 100 years average more than 60 and then only just. He also played in an era compared to today when he had an inferior bat, inferior protection, inferior wickets, rules that favoured bowlers much more (the Bodyline era) and the bowlers were just as quick as they are today.
Valerie Adams in the women's shot-put. She's won 56 consecutive competions and the only person who looked like challenging failed a doping test.
Kenenisa Bekele in his pomp was also a sure-fire bet, from 2001 to 2007 he won 27 cross country races on the trot including winning the short and long course golds 5 years in a row.

For an individual, I'd nominate Sergey Bubka, who won six consecutive pole vault World Championships, Olympic gold medal and broke the world record 35 times!
From Wikki "...He cleared 6.00 meters or better on 45 occasions, more than all other athletes in history combined"
For man and machine, I'd nominate Great Dane Tom Kristensen in any endurance Audi from 1999 to present day, or perhaps Sebastian Leob in the Citroen.
For a team, then it's the West Indies on a spicy Barbadian pitch, c 1984.

On topic today and from a less popular sport but for me it would be Kevin Sinfield. Quite simply one of the best leaders on a rugby pitch that I have ever seen. About to become one of only 4 players all time to 4000 points in Rugby League and has captained Leeds Rhinos to every domestic honour and 3 World Club Championships over the last decade
A true professional and a phenomenal ambassador for the game and I hope that his twilight years in Union can help return Carnegie to the Premiership and add further to his legacy
