Chaps, rather than clog the GC thread, how's about somewhere warm and safe to embrace the pain of watching England these days.

42/4

Cook a battling 16.

Good call.

Still, I foresee a safe passage to lunch and 350/4 at the close with these pair at the helm of the good ship.

You're welcome.

What a fking shambles. Stokes is batting right now because Ali was having a net out the back and couldn't get back and his kit on in time.

I am trying really hard to put my disillusionment with the ECB aside and support this team.

But it is hard to love Ian Bell when he does this in the first innings of the season. Oh, I know he tonk someone this series for a magnificent 150 at some point, but he is not exactly Mr consistent at the moment

England cricket is just becoming a massive joke and an embarrassment. If the Kiwis are fking em like this, against the Aussies, its gonna be utterly brutal.

Hold up lads the boys at the crease are tonking them for 8 an over at the moment party

Its alright 5 and 6 tonking them for 8 an over, but 1-4 are meant to build the platform.

Cook and Bell are past their best IMO. While "Straussy" (Cook's name for Andrew Strauss) is involved nothing will ever change. If Gillespie takes over hopefully he will make changes and not be a yes man. Get the best players in, regardless of past issues!

So at lunch you have a couple of kiwis bowling at a Pom and a kiwi.

When the kiwis bat at some stage it is likely that there will be a kiwi bowling at an Aussie.

Makes my poor aged head hurt.

Decisions decisions.

Yep - bit confused today

113 runs from 26 overs. I don't mind when the "openers" die early, especially if they are dot ball specialists.

Root 49 off 46 balls, anyone would think he was trying to get made Captain wink

Aussie, Kiwi...
They all have English heritage so what does it matter?

Quit liking Root and Stokes has looked competent this morning.

Didn't understand the opening strategy however. The Kiwis didn't look quite as sharp as I'd have expected.

Root now has 26 Test Matches behind him, which he seems to have accumulated really quite quickly, and at an average of 56, he must be our highest average bat in the current side by some distance.

^Ballance has a higher average. It was over 60 before the start of play but today's 1 has seen that drop to 58.94.

Edit to add: Jos Buttler also has a higher average (62.00).

good recovery- shocked us all

I know Root is lined as for next captain, it seems a shame that it might hinder his batting if he becomes captain

Has Root been made Vice Captain for this series? Smart move by England.

Ali being in the nets has helped us and allowed us to get Stokes in and smash the ball around.

Stokes needs to be careful here, otherwise he will be batting four in the next match

15 runs from Stokes in the over, top lad !
