As much as it fun to watch McCullum, that is truly dreadful and selfish test batting.

123 for four.

Another wicket without the score being added to would be more poetic

Close enough

Now looks a decent decision by Cook to have a bowl, five down and 144 on the board. That is about as good as we could have expected, and to have BMac out is a real bonus.

So far so good.

The Aussie is doing well. 50 of 37. Now 75 not out. Aussies often bat well at Headingley. Probably why Hwadingley lost the Ashes tests lately to the Mickey Mouse grounds.

About time, we lost it there for an hour or so and they got far too many runs and we dropped too many catches

Shame Ronchi rewarded piss weak negative short bowling. 82-85 mph ste, Ronchi hit it flat - should have put it where it belongs.

Good days cricket for both teams here.

McCullum is confusing 'attacking' and 'aggressive' with slogging.

Threw is wicket at Lords in the first innings. Really has no idea what test cricket is about and how to win.

Like shooting fish in a barrel bowling to this lot. They seem to not want to grind out a big score.

Apart from having not lost a Test in two yrs until Monday wasn't it?

fk knows how (other than most tests at home against WI, India and SL) - not his batting that's for certain. Averages less than 40 in all forms of the game. His batting is just childish in the long form of the game. Great in a T20 slugfest though. Useful in a 50 over game too.

Handy scoring though, might be low scorer all round.

Dropped a lot of catches today, and some poor reviews.

Entertaining though!

England are likely to get the best of the batting weather.

Well the 3rd best Test side in the world have been found out by England. This is great preparation for the Ashes as the boys will gain plenty of confidence from how they're doing & also the inevitable boost from signing a new coach.
Add to that, half the Aussie squad have sick notes at the ready & I think this will be a great opportunity to bring the urn back home to where she belongs.

The concern I have is that we continue to concede over 4 runs an over. I know that NZ are quite attacking and play shots, which often gives us wickets but 4 runs an over is high.

Well in theast Test yr BMac has a triple ton, double ton and some normal tons. Lad can't bat for toffee.

Aus don't possess anything like the counter attacking middle order ability of NZ. Their attacking hitters are up top and in a 5 match series against Broad & Anderson I'll back our two three matches out of five to have the Aussie two down before 50 runs are on the board. Steve Smith has matured into a fine batsman in the Aus middle order I grant you, it will make a fine classical tussle.

Hopefully see Adam L make some runs today and another ton for Chef would be nice. Nobody shows their support for an under fire under pressure criticised and berated English cricket who faces down his accusers like the Western Terrace. It pains me to say it but there is a good case can be made that Lords might be the head of English cricket but Headingly is the heart of it.
