Close enough

Now looks a decent decision by Cook to have a bowl, five down and 144 on the board. That is about as good as we could have expected, and to have BMac out is a real bonus.

So far so good.

Handy scoring though, might be low scorer all round.

Dropped a lot of catches today, and some poor reviews.

Entertaining though!

202/1 is a decent score in any conditions/pitch

Kiwis struggling have gone into the game with only four frontline bowlers.

Great to see Lyth get a score, perfect timing and settles him in for the rest of the summer.

English bowling attack is still a little inconsistent, but I like the look of Wood, seems to have something slightly different. Broad remains an expensive bowler, but a wicket taker.

By having Ballance come in with his strike rate of around 25 you mean? wink
Three fours of that over, so not too shabby

200 for 1, 253 for 5

Our "world class" middle order, looking pretty ordinary today.

Anyway, the Hammer of Justice is still out there, so that's a bonus, he needs to scratch himself back into form.
But Ballance running out the Lyth was just poor.

Anyway, reckon we will get to par, but it could and should have been a little better than that.

Not sure it is a really true batting pitch, balls at Headingly occasionally fly of the surface, just seen one to Buttler that really leapt.

I think that is why once you get in you tend to score, but getting picked up early happens quite a bit.

Stuart Broad, I take it all back, great knock today, well played. Hope that is the end of your yips after that horrible bouncer.

Think we will be chasing a few too many here, especially as the bowling is moving quite a bit.

Still, hope we go down fighting all the way

IAN BELL, England expects....

Might find himself out the team if he goes cheap today

Only another 423 needed from here, we should win at about tea tomorrow.
Only if they let us bat down to 18....

We have dropped far too many catches in this match to have a chance.

Still records are there to be broken. I am sure Ian Bell will get one of his double centuries and win the match, or alternatively chase a wide one off to third slip for 7.

Those rascally bookies, 5-1 on a outright test record across all the years and matches... disgraceful.

I be surprised if they got any takers at 100-1

Bell averaging 33 in the last 12 Tests.

650 odd runs in total. Trouble is half of those runs came in two innings.

Great when he gets it right, proper class.

Simon Hughes was speaking on TMS , comparing Root and Bell. He said Bell needed constant reassurance. Belly you are top player , world class coaches would say to him daily . He had a very precise routine before play 10 throw downs each of round the wicket , over the wicket and a spinner. Root had none of that. Goes some way to explain why it took so long to score a century when nobody else in the team did.
Sorry probably being thick here, are you saying Bells preparation is good, or that Root is mentally more sturdy.

I am not sure which batsman you are referring to.

Think it is just to sell a few tickets.

Run rate is beyond England as a team, though one or two individuals could manage it, but I suspect they can't hang around long enough to make it happen.

Who would be an England Cricket fan, it's like being Max Moseley on a budget.

The pain, the humiliation - with the very very occasional moment of pleasure.

Bell - it is back to county for you.

LOL at Joe Root.
Yes always better to let your actual play do the talking.

Reminded me of a certain Aussie fast bowler of sporadic accuracy.
