Would you rather be at 253/5 than 250/0?
We only need a draw to win the series, it's NZ that need to chase the game. See off the new ball, wear their bowlers out and then up the rate. It's called test cricket because it's a test. A series of tests. Chef is too negative as a captain, but to suggest that we'd be better off losing five wickets for a extra three runs is a view that I'm struggling to understand.
I would rather be 250/0, however, in this test, with NZ scoring 350 in their 1st innings and day 3 looking like a washout the score needed to move along quicker. I agree England only need a draw to win the series but surely the aim of a test is to win We only need a draw to win the series, it's NZ that need to chase the game. Shame it is only a 2 match joke series. Not sure what the point is of a 2 match test series tbh.
Like so many things today, it all comes down to money. Not that many people will pay to watch NZ. I did so many years ago and saw Rodney Towse take all day to score the first third of his double century. Made Boycott look like Chris Gayle. I suspect that the next time they come they'll be able to point to the excitement that they've generated and get another test.Interesting article on Cricinfo talking about the admission from Cook that he has been using a freelance coach, Gary Palmer, to improve his batting.
It raises questions over the usefulness of the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough and the England batting coach, Mark Ramprakash, when the England captain decides to go elsewhere for help.

Palmer and Pont (Ian Pont, a freelance bowling coach) have, in recent years, been consistent in their belief that coach development in England is lagging well behind the development of the world game. Both have suggested that the ECB's reliance on coaching protocols that are out-dated is holding back its players and that there is too much emphasis on fitness and not enough on skill.
