I'm not suggesting England are favourites by any means. But it's not often that you get over 5 sessions to chase a total.
The pitch isn't breaking up into mpieces like pitches used to do. It's not turning sideways.
Cook et al can play their natural game and not have to force things.
Will be an interesting couple of days cricket.
Come on chaps...predictions for England total in 2nd innings?
There will be the opportunity for 3 new balls before stumps on day 5 so life could be interesting. ( start of innings, early and then late day 5 could be an inspired declaration )The pitch isn't breaking up into mpieces like pitches used to do. It's not turning sideways.

It would be a shame if this test was washed out to the weather. Ideally i would love us to give the chase a good go and really test our batting line-up under pressure to get a win.
I'd like to see this too, but I can't see it happening. I'd bet on a draw. Bell needs to get some runs this innings IMO. Not on good form thus far and a solid innings would do him good.

Not quite sure how they said on TMS etc not much rain considering the rainfall radar was showing a lot of rain moving in from mid morning.
Absolutely. All the weather apps I looked at predicted rain at the exact time it started. Then if you're unsure the Doppler rain radar available on most sites enables you to make the same calculation yourself. It can't really be a surprise when it starts raining when massive rain showers are approaching from the west like they were today.
Simon Hughes was speaking on TMS , comparing Root and Bell. He said Bell needed constant reassurance. Belly you are top player , world class coaches would say to him daily . He had a very precise routine before play 10 throw downs each of round the wicket , over the wicket and a spinner. Root had none of that. Goes some way to explain why it took Bell so long to score a century when nobody else in the team did.

Sorry probably being thick here, are you saying Bells preparation is good, or that Root is mentally more sturdy. I am not sure which batsman you are referring to.
No it was me being thick I've edited to make sense. I think Root is more mentally tough. Bell a lot of the time gets himself out. Early on in his England career he chipped to mid on\off as though he wasn't confidant to hit over the top. He isn't alone though in the world of cricket though. I thought it was an interesting story to highlight the different thought processes going on at the highest level of sport. Ideally you would have more like Root than Bell but that's just the makeup of people.

st team this New Zealand, no idea how to play Test cricket right John?
No - if you could be arsed to read what i wrote I was suggesting specifically that McCullum's reckless batting and NZ's general complacency at Lords lost them the test match. They lost to a pretty average team after posting 500 in the first dig on a good batting pitch, so I'd say they're not all that - exciting to watch when smashing 82 mph trundlers on a good wicket though, I'll give them that.
