I was there yesterday and was a pretty good day! I think McCullum made a mistake by not bringing Craig straight back on after lunch. He had two good appeals in his first 2 overs before lunch so it was strange not to see him continue after. Glad he didnt though haha.

I work pretty close to Lords, does anyone know if they still let people in for free if the test reaches the 5th day?
Quite often they sell tickets for a tenner, but certainly not for free.

I know for the Ashes game at Lords all five days are sold out.

Obviously not expecting any of the Ashes games, what about some of the county fixtures?

Full Middlesex membership is £260 a year, which gets you into Lords free whenever they are playing, plus you can be in the pavilion and various other areas.

What has happened to Stuart Broad. He used to be so handy swinging the bat.

Don't think being smashed in the face helped his batting much.

Great stat on TMS. This is now the highest ever test total by a side which has lost 4 wickets for 30 runs or less.

All out for 389. I always thought Lords was a bit of a batters paradise. Will be interesting to see once both teams have had a go.

You thought wrong. The Oval has been a far better place to bat for as long as I can remember. If the ball is swinging at Lord's, which it was yesterday morning and evening it's an awkward place to bat at, doubly so because of the slope.

Decent enough total for England, especially given that they were put in and made a pigs ear of the first hour.

Your somewhat condescending reply led me to do a bit of research.

Test centuries @ Lords - 228 (120 since 1980)
Test centuries @ Oval - 164 (65 since 1980)

There's only one person wrong here...and it isn't me wink

I'm not saying which is better but I don't think that you can simply compare the number of centuries at each ground without comparing the number of games played. Lord's hosts 2 test matches a year compared to 1 at the Oval.

Edit to add:

After wrestling with the statsguru on cricinfo I managed to get the batting averages for each ground since 1980.

Lord's 34.30
The Oval 35.39

The Oval has the very slightly higher overall batting average (statsguru)

Have to say I like listening to Jeremy Coney, he's so mellow. It was nice listening to all the foreign commentators during the World Cup and nice to hear one over here now, adds an extra dimension.

I actually think cricket is the only sport better on radio than tv. Just because of the commentating and things said when nothing is happening. TMS is brilliant. Well done those lefties at the BBC !

Looks like they answered that question fairly emphatically.

Love TMS. Like you said it's not just the commentating but also the stories, chat about random things. Plus it's great they get a variety of people into the commentating box, always seems like they are having fun.
