The Ashes 2015

Cardiff isn't the outlier for MJ simply because he has ALWAYS been ste in England. He has always lacked control and the skill to control the ball and the mental strength to withstand a constant barracking. He has had one decent bowling test previously in England - indeed until Lords his batting has been by far his strongest suit in England
I'd suggest that MJ's bowling form turned around in the last one day series over there when he monstered the batsmen and Trott in particular which I think ultimately led to his meltdown over here.Roll on the rest of the series

Bairstow replaces Ballance, bats at 5 and Bell and Root bat at 3/4.
Ali bats at 3 for his county so no reason he cannot bat higher up
Moeen might be OK playing at 3 in county cricket as you don't get many bowlers with the pace or bounce of Mitchell Johnson in country cricket. The Aussies know that he is susceptible to the short ball. Pushing him up to number 3 where he is likely to face fresher bowlers with a harder cherry won't help him.Ali bats at 3 for his county so no reason he cannot bat higher up

Why will Bell be more successful at 3?
It is a question that the Aussies must be asking themselves. It doesnt seem to make any sense whatsoever but only time will tell maybe instead of 40 -3 we can be 25-3.I am sure the Aussies are really scared or maybe we are going for confusion as a tactic

He struggled massively with confidence and fell to pieces mentally. The MJ now is not the MJ we saw previously in England.

Didn't MJ go back to Aus after the last Ashes here when he struggled, got his head together, worked on his action and basically we saw the outcome in the 5-0 whitewash in Aus where he ripped our batsman a new one.

Quiet interesting to see how that extra 5mph made to the way Aus bowled compared to Eng. Hostile, Bouncing 90mph+ deliveries scaring the life out of our boys. If it doesn't swing then our attack looks a little limited.

John, re: Trott - I've a different theory that I've had for a long time. His crease antics have always attracted attention and comment but mostly humorous. I've always seen it as a guy expending massive nervous energy and mentally wound up way past healthy. I only have this view as it's something it's taken my wife telling me to stop doing 101 physical tics, tells, movements I do with my fingers, hands, legs, feet whenever I'm worrying or thinking way too obsessively about something (most of the time). Trott had been a ticking bomb for yrs, he was never going to have a long international career.
Warner, quite rightly, has suggested Australia still rate Bell. He's out of form - but he has class. And we all know form is temporary, class is permanent.
On his home ground he could & should make runs.
Hopefully he will make 51 in each innings - enough to keep his place but not enough to make a difference...

Right. Ticket bought.
There on Thursday. Always prefer day 2 - most likely to see a bit of both sides batting. If we win the toss and bat, should see the end of our innings and the famous 30-4. If you bat first I hope to see us bowling ( well, I hope so, though it does require England to survive 90 overs). I think I'd prefer to watch us bowl than bat. Much more spectacle.
Long range forecast suggests no rain- so hopefully a full day's cricket.
