This is the equivalent of 20/20 for us old fast bowlers.

England's middle order going into odi mode, really do not want the crims to get the ideal batting conditions after lunch.

Drop anchor & bat till tea.

Why Ali is batting behind stokes & Butler is beyond me. He's such a talent.

Root is closing in on being the ICC number 1 ranked batsman, current three, villiersand smith ahead. Though I imagine Smiths points are getting a pasting in this series.

Root is looking a real star at the moment.
Root is the future of English cricket & he seems a very likeable level headed young man. The English players seem to have a very, very good team spirit which can only be a good thing.

I've been a cricket fan all of my 50+ years & i can't think of an English team that has this many talented young hungry for success players before .

We should as English cricket fans applaud the selectors for ignoring KP when many (me included ) thought he should be back in the fold after his huge score for Surrey earlier this year.

I think what John meant to say was it's a pitch that lends itself to guile & technique rather than brawn & bluster.
Aussies should still win with a session in hand.
Not sure if you're referring to batting or bowling (or both) when you refer to guile/brawn etc.

I don't think the wickets should unduly favour the 93mph quicks. But slow dead wickets reduce the quality of cricket - much like a bumpy, waterlogged football pitch limits some quality football.

I'd like to see wickets with a bit of green in it for the quicks/seamers with reliable, true bounce that rewards batsmen who see off the new ball and a bit of turn on days 4/5 for the spinners.

Not convinced spinners should be getting loads of turn on day 1.
John...thanks for the advice. The Warwickshire and Notts groundsmen are toasting you tonight as the brains behind the England revival post Lords. I hear Jimmy, Broad and Stokes are offering to chip in for a case of something cold and tinny to be sent to your gaff smile
Obviously we are going to prepare wickets to suite or strengths, thats the way it is .

Lets be fair here, England had by far the best conditions to bat & bowl with ,if the Australians had won the toss on thursday the result could easily have been reversed & losing Ryan Harris just 3 days before the start of the ashes must have been a huge blow , i reckon he would have been nigh on impossible to play on thursday morning had the Aussies won what i feel was the most important part of the the game in calling the toss correctly .

Fantastic for us Brits & it just goes to show that after all these horrid 20/20 & 50 over bat a a thons that the "Test match" is still the king of cricket.

Indeed , proper cricket. Real cricket is a battle between bat & ball, not just who can hit it the furthest .

There is absolutely no doubt that the one day whack a thons are causing Test matches to be over on day 3 & 4

2nd ODI on today.

This format is all wrong, the ODIs should be before the ashes, then have the tests and then the t20.

After the ashes is done, nobody cares about the ODIs. Which on their own would be a great little competition.
Couldn't agree more, the Aussies being over here has kind of lost it's buzz.
