If you want equality why isn't Junior Wimbledon or the doubles, or any of the other categories equal prize money?

I've not really got an axe to grind here as I enjoy the mens and womens tennis, but I do struggle get how the women get paid the same when across the length of a tournament they've played a lot less.

By some of the reasoning on this thread you could just say fk it, knock it down to best of three games and give someone the trophy and the same winnings as the men.

I suppose it's because I view professional tennis as (amongst other things) a commercial business and therefore how you reward the participants is in my mind connected to how successful or otherwise the sport is commercially. IMO the men's game is far more of a draw than the women's and I think the rewards (of which prize money is one element) should reflect that. I'm not in any way saying I don't have respect for the ability and talent of female tennis professionals, I just don't think they're at anything like the same level as the men and that's reflected in the relative attractiveness of their sport; therefore, I don't think they deserve to be paid the same.
I totally agree with you, and your follow up line of reasoning too.

The prize money would be nowhere near the levels it is without the commerciality. For anyone to try and think the two are not related is madness.
