Kovalev, possibly by KO.

But, more importantly, why is Groves' dumb frigging band allowed to play in the middle of rounds?irked

That band pissed me off on the ring walk, let alone during the fight.

Decent performance from Groves. I really rate him as a boxer, but he did decline since the first fight with Froch- that was either confidence and/or the trainer. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards for him.

The Groves performance was an interesting one. I thought he looked very good; he didn't really put a foot wrong and dominated throughout...but I just had the feeling that the pre-Froch Groves would have strutted in there and blown the guy away. To me, his performance on Saturday just had a slightly more considered or constrained feel about it. Whether that's the legacy of being KO'd by Froch and put down by Jack coming through - either in a positive or negative way - or maybe because he was more focused on implementing certain things he'd been working on with McGuigan, or simply that Groves figured out he could win the fight comfortably without unveiling the real show-stoppers, I'm not sure...but I just had a feeling that he maybe needs a couple more 'range-finder' fights before going after the belts and names in the division.

Speaking of McGuigan, some interesting comments on the condition of David Haye in this article:

I can't see him getting a license to box, but you never know. He looks in decent shape though, to be fair.

Suggests he's perhaps not in a good place mentally to be considering such a thing.

Frank holds some great memories for me. I can still remember sitting at a mates place with a group of us all urging him to finish of Tyson after he'd stunned him. One more punch and he'd have won.

I really don't want that ruined, and I don't want Frank ruined either. Let's hope he can find some other positive thing to be doing.

As one of the other articles suggested, he probably wasn't well enough to be appearing on This Morning, let alone in a boxing ring.

Heartbreaking to see him like this...

Back in the mists of time I used to run Fila sportswear in the UK. I'd briefly met Frank at an event and he called me one day because he wanted to buy some gear for himself. I would gladly have given Frank whatever he wanted for himself or his family and offered to do so but he insisted on paying for it. He insisted on paying for it. I repeat that because it was so rare for any sort of celebrity to do that. Frank was a true gent and it's very sad to see what he's been through in recent years. I hope to God they don't let him back in the ring.

I watched that Tyson fight on TV in a Munich hotel with a load of sports industry people and remember two things. The excitement when he caught Tyson with that punch in the 1st and yelling at the ref to stop it in the 5th to save Frank from further punishment. A brave performance from a brave fighter.

Well according to Twitter last night the board won't grant him a license. A good decision on their part as Frank is a national treasure and it is sad to see him thinking that a return to the sport is a good decision. Must say he did look in incredible shape for a 54 year old on the pads last week with Hatton but there is a big gap between that and stepping in the ring competitively.

Interesting read about Haye and his physical conditioning etc. Just wondering whether it is 100% true or a bit of a ploy to a). keep his name in the news and b). to provide a bit of a psychological edge. Probably a bit of both to be fair.

Kovalev vs. Ward is an interesting match up. Very tough to call that one, Ward can make very good boxers look very average with his tricky defensive style. Kovalev might just have the power to unsettle him though.

For me, if I could make any fight in the world at the moment, this would probably be it (on the proviso that Ward looks to be at least somewhere close to the top of his game when he fights Sullivan Barrera next month). Potentially an absolutely fascinating contest assuming Ward can shake off the injury and inactivity of the last few years. Both unbeaten, both P4P top 5, both a class above everyone else they've shared a ring with and, unlike Mayweather-Pacquiao, both still in their peak years. Contests like that come around all too rarely!

On the subject of the Light-Heavyweight division, I see Jurgen Braehmer is now looking for an opponent to defend his regular WBA title against in March after Thomas Oosthuizen was withdrawn under not the best of circumstances (another fighter looking like he's seriously struggling outside of the ring). I have a hunch both Nathan Celevery and Enzo Maccarinelli will be high on Sauerland's list of substitute opponents...
