Couple of big unification fights looking likely to come to fruition now. Firstly Brook vs Vargas - Vargas has apparently signed his part of the contract and is willing to come to the UK, so fingers crossed for late August/early September at Bramhall Lane. Win that and it becomes so much more difficult for the rest of the division to look the other way when it comes to Brook, though Eddie Hearn is making noises about Kell moving up to Light-Middle in 2017.

Also, Crolla vs Linares - the WBC has just installed Linares as 'diamond' champion (so ranking above Zlaticanin, who picked up the vacant WBC belt last weekend after Linares was moved to champion-in-recess), thus paving the way for the unification fight with Crolla late September in Manchester. A tough assignment for Crolla - Linares is still considered to be the best in the division and, though 'in recess', hasn't been out of the ring that long, but was run very close by Kevin Mitchell and Crolla is in sensational form at the moment; don't think I'd bet against him in front of his home crowd...

Anthony Crolla is one of my favourite fighters, I love the fact he is going for the big fights. He earnt a lot of respect in the Barroso fight, a fight that many fighters would of dodged imo.

Just seen this on Boxrec..

Of course he still disputes that 1 loss!

Probably the best performance I've seen from him. That footwork and defensive skill! And it seems he's now getting some real power to match - it's not as if Martinez falls over or stays down easily.

Best amateur ever and on the way to being one of the very best pros ever at this rate. Yet only got c. $800,000. Madness.
the monster pay days will come ,i'm sure of that!

Yeah, but if you look at Greb's recent form, lost two of his last six...lucky to be in there at all, I'd say wink

'Course you won't...you've probably got a stack of memorabilia for both of them and you're just trying to talk up the market!

haha!! ....you got me!

i actually DO have an archie moore....

i WISH i had a harry greb....his signature is the gold standard of boxing memorabilia collectors. i was all excited a few weeks ago because a signed photo he'd gifted to a promoter in pennsylvania i think, had turned up in a loft somewhere. it had passed jsa and hamilton authentication and was for sale through heritage.

i think someone nicked it for 3 and a half grand but in reality i saw it as worth at least double that. i don't know why it went so low because there hasn't been a greb item for sale anywhere in the last 12 years.

bit of a shock result from the weekend....hard man fonfara (of nathan cleverly fame) stopped INSIDE A ROUND by unheralded but seemingly hard punching "irish" joe smith jr.....eek

Crikey, I hadn't seen that, Fonfara looked impressive against Cleverly, this Irish lad must really bang.

I watched the warm up stuff for this weekend, Joshua is going to have his hardest task yet, as you'd expect, but I'm really looking forward to Groves vs Murray, I can't see Murray falling into Groves jab, he's too hard and experienced, but I can't see Murray having the speed or smarts to catch Groves, it'll be really interesting, could be a snooze fest but i doubt it, I think they might drag each other into a war.

Thing was, a second or two before, Fonfara looked like he'd buzzed Smith and was moving in to finish him...but he came in with his left held low and Smith threw a big overhand right that caught Fonfara flush. Happens...!

i've actually only just got around to watching it with a lull in work.....he impressed me that kid, obviously VERY heavy handed wether fonfara dropped his hand or not(though an open chin for a short right hook defenately helps!!!laugh)...long wking spanners and a very pressurizing heavy jab looked to upset fonfara's rhythm a bit. i liked the way he stepped into his shots, a bit too hitable at times but then pressure fighters are always going to be a bit more vulnerable to a tagging....

one to watch out for!

Any predictions for the big fights Saturday?

I think AJ wins by KO, 3 rounds tops.

Groves wins on points but I'd like Murray to win. This is the fight I'm looking forward to.

I think it's Thurman V Porter too (possibly on Sky Sports?) Don't know much about these 2 as only seen them once each

AJ within 2 rounds, 3 max.

Breazele is a american football player who did not make it to the NFL and turned to boxing by chance, having watched him on the pads he is absolutely terrible, looks like a very big clumsy guy who has randomly ended up in a boxing ring.

His lack of punching speed and poor movement will sadly mean this fight is a non entity AJ will destroy him if he wanted to he could do it in 1 round I imagine.

Other than the two obvious fights AJ has to fight Haye or at least someone like Pulev- someone with a bit of ambition and pedigree to gauge where he is at.

Groves win by KO for me.

Relatively easy win for Eubank j.r vs Doran- 4-5 round KO.

Breazale did look rubbish on the pads in the clip I saw the other day but it's not the same as being in the ring. I still think he is made for AJ, a big target who won't move too much so I predict a 2 round demolition job. I genuinely hope that AJ fights Wilder next in late 2017 then he's got the WBC & IBF titles.

I actually think Groves will lose against Murray on points.

Brezeale is obviously big and his record suggest he hits hard, I was quite surprised to see this is his first scheduled 12 rounder! Not that it's going to go that long, I can't see Joshua taking more than 4 to finish him, don't be surprised if it's a stoppage though I do think Brezeale will soak up a lot.

I want Murray to win, but wouldn't bet either way.

i've been noticing that when joshua throws his right cross he hangs it out there a little bit and doesn't bring it straight back to his chin...rather he pulls it back with the glove almost above head height. that creates an open target for the lead hook or hook off the parry.

it was interesting that the combinations that breazeale was throwing on the pads were all heavily inclusive of the left hook.

i'm not saying he's going to win.....far from it......but he's obviously seen what i have.

i see the groves/murray fight as the best on the card. i see groves throwing everything at murray and being ahead by the half way stage. the interesting bit is going to be the back straight...but i see groves on points as the most likely outcome but wouldn't be overly shocked if a late stoppage came in favour of murray.having said that he did look a lot stronger back at middleweight i feel so who knows

I noticed that, it's a huge delay in withdrawing the hand. I hope it's just to look good and not a seriously bad habit, but he did do that a few times against Whyte IIRC.
