How do people think this fight has come about?

Eubank Jnr dragging his heels too much and GGG's camp said enough's enough, we are walking. So Hearn offered up Brook, same terms, same date, to appease them? Brook sees it as a win-win even if he loses and jumps at the chance?

Surely the Eubank camp will be furious (if they genuinely wanted the fight). How can they trust Hearn now, doing this, so soon after they re-signed with him?

Glad it's in London. I will definitely be going. Really want to see GGG fight in the flesh.

I'm not sure I get the 'respect' thing for KB - He's doing it for the purse and knowing it's a win win. Not about heart or guts, just merely to credit his bank account by fighting a name he would never normally get chance to mix with.

I understand what you're saying but going up 13lbs is brave in anyone's book. How intelligent doing so against the best pound for pound puncher on the planet remains to be seen...

The contract for Eubank-GGG was drafted weeks ago. However, the Eubank's kept changing the details and the the original contract became null and void with all the newly proposed changes being pitched by Eubank Senior. Some of the proposals were crazy by the way, Snr wanted ticket prices to be DOUBLE that of Joshua's fights at London amongst a total reworking of a standard Matchroom contract. Eddie and Barry Hearn must have thought that the Eubank-Golovkin would just have so many caveats drafted into the contract that it might not be worth all the aggro dealing with the Eubanks.

Then, I guess, Hearn called Brook and said "Here is your chance, take it. Don't say I don't deliver anything for you now".

Brook must have thought about it for about 30 seconds and agreed. He is in a win-win situation. It's his highest purse EVER, it's in the UK, the PPV money will be great for him, and he won't lose his WW belt either.

Naturally, he is expected to get splattered by Golovkin. The guy is afterall a monster puncher.

Golovkin takes him out in 5 rounds after taking a few rounds to try and figure him out due to Brook's naturally slippery style.

From what I have read its Eubank Snr that scuppered things.

Hearn: “We have a model with our fighters,” said Hearn. “The problem was that Chris Eubank Sr wanted operational control of the show. He wanted to select his own ticket prices, his own undercard… talking about security and hotels. I don’t need that hassle, that’s what we do, that’s what we’ve done for 30 years.”

From the videos I've seen on YouTube, I blame Eubank Snr for the collapse of GGG v Eubank Jr. The guy is a total tosspot.

Can't see Brook giving GGG too much to think about.

Agreed looking at Hearn's comments today it looks like Snr messed things up. The sooner Jnr wises up and either moves him to doting ringside spectator or flicks him out of the camp altogether it'll continue to hold him back.

From what I've read and what Eddie Hearn has said, Eubank Snr wanted to control ticket prices, which hotels should be used, advertising, which venues to use for the press conference(s) and to handle all other aspects of the promotion.....

....all this despite NOT being a promotor himself! Essentially, Eubank Snr wanted to use Eddie Hearn's license, contacts and workforce and pay Hearn as little as possible.

I can see both sides of this argument (if there is one) eubank snt is only trying to get the best deal he can for his son, I'm sure junior will be quite alright having gone through his life never getting done over by golovkin for a few quid. Boxing has had a long history of exploitation of fighters, there are laws in the US (inspired by the late Ali) to protect fighters from being managed and promoted by the same outfit, in recent years several big outfits, most notably al haymon and Eddie Hearn seem to operate in scant regard for the spirit of those rules.

Obviously Eddie can't carry on representing Eubank Jr and they'll have to be realistic about what they can get but I'd never criticise a bloke for sticking to his demands or looking out for his family. Makes you wonder whose going to come of this better, kell or Chris, because Chris can get back in with BJS for pretty similar money and a lot less risk.

^^Can't believe what I'm reading.

Eubank Snr is delusional to the point where you begin to question his mental health. His lives in a world of his own. He wanted to control who comments on the fight, who is on the under-card, which hotels are used, the ticket prices, press conference dates, the promotion..the list goes on! Is that what you call looking after his fighter?

The whole situation is ridiculous, imagine how Eubank jr feels today. His father has just cost him the best part of 3 million pounds and the chance to win 3 world titles, and to test himself against one of the best his division has seen since the 1990's!

What makes you think Billy Joe Saunders will fight Eubank jr again? Jr. has no belt. He has already beaten him once. He dislikes him and his father and would probably refuse to fight him just out of spite. Eubank jr will now probably have to go back to fighting poor British level boxers for small purses, don't forget this has also damaged his reputation massively Eddie Hearn has been very vocal in what he has said. It's no more than he deserves for not taking some control over his own career and his own future.

I did say I can see both sides of this.

Look, you have to assume Eddie wants to put the show on, its a massive event in world standing for boxing fans but not massive for general public and ppv buys, it will give matchroom some prestige (assuming Eubank can put up a half decent fight), so all I'm saying is Eubank Jr is in quite abunique position of actually have someone who has his other best interests at heart. As everyone from Mayweather to Andre ward and at least half a dozen very high level guys have ducked or swerved fighting Golovkin you've got to assume Eubank doesn't give himself (or his son) a snowballs chance and just doesn't want the fight, I doubt he seriously went in expecting to pick which hotels and caterers were hired for the event, it's just a way of saying no without saying no.

BJS will fight him again, its his biggest payday as well without taking on Golovkin, which he will also not do.

Jr should do everything in his power to secure a Danny jacobs shot. If he wins.....and it's a big if because jacobs is a good fighter....He at least has a bargaining chip at the table by having the wba belt. With that he can negotiate a much better deal versus Golovkin or Saunders than he can do right now
