Anyone any thoughts on the return of Manny? Widely confirmed he is fighting Vargas on November 5th.

My thoughts are that if Manny beats Vargas (he should do) then he will either face Crawford and then Mayweather will come out and fight Manny (if Manny beats Crawford)

or

Manny beats Vargas and then Mayweather fights Manny then winner faces Crawford.

I think personally the first thought would be right as then Mayweather would feel confident of beating Manny again, gaining his 50-0 and avoid Crawford in doing so.

I feel Arum would prefer to keep things in house, give manny his warm up against Vargas then set up a big PPV against Crawford in the hope Crawford wins and the baton passes to Crawford and he gains PPV magnetism.

Anyone showing an interest in the Olympic boxing? I've had a cheeky tenner on Joe Cordina for patriotic duties being a Welshy he is supremely talented though and would regularly be the bogeyman for a mate in the Welsh championships.

Looking forward to seeing Joe Joyce in the super heavies as it could be likely we have another top heavyweight turning pro after the games are done.

Bit of speculation on who we might see go pro post games? Joyce and maybe Muhammad Ali for me as that's another super heavy for the mix and a name that promoters aren't going to have any trouble promoting. Interestingly Eddie Hearn has made Cordina his pick for gold in the games so we could see Eddie chasing his post games and building a Welsh contingent to go with Lee Selby
The boxing is probably the only sport I'm interested in this Olympics.

Hopefully on the Ireland team Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan will upgrade their bronzes from 2012 to gold this time, and I would expect Katie Taylor to win gold again.

Would be great if Nicola Adams wins gold again, which I would expect she will.

Every time I see Nicola Adams on the telly she makes me smile, she's epitomises all the good things about boxing and sport in general for me.

I think I love her.

I think she exudes happiness - that smile of her's is infectious. I find myself smiling whenever she's interviewed on TV

She sure is. Felt sorry for her that she had to meet Katie Taylor in the 2012 Olympics, otherwise she would have won a medal no probs.

seen a few posts like this and I can only agree whatever it is that makes her so happy they should bottle it.

Win for Ward, Kovalev on 19th November. Really hope there isn't any injuries or something else that delays this fight.

Joshua Buatsi - light heavyweight at the olympics for GB looks like a very decent fighter. Tall, rangey, decent jab and throwing some brutal body shots.

apparently brand came over to kovalev after the fight and said ward was a powder puff puncher and predicted a stoppage win for kovalev.....i see an ugly spoil-fest of a fight that may be quite frustrating to watch

oh mate....i've been checking that heritage site for weeks now. all the ali stuff is gradually coming live for bids.

you fancy the gloves from the phantom punch liston bout??....well they sold a few years ago for a million dollars.they are back up now.....and ,of course, the last time they sold ali wasn't dead....there's some eye watering bids on stuff already.....and there's a month of bidders scratching each others eyes out yet to come. it'll be better than big brother!!(even though big brother is ste....you get the idea though!!)

I've got a signed Ali glove. Didn't cross my mind to sell it when he died but if things are going for stupid money it may be worth looking into.

Definitely pal. Prices have gone daft obviously.....problem is there's a glut on the market at the moment and estimates from respected authenticators like James Spence or Craig Hamilton are that as much as 80% out there are forgeries. I know how few "cassius clay" signatures were available 10 years ago to today and it's ridiculous. As long as yours has proven provenance you could cash in. Prices range from very dodgy 100 quiders to bona fide cast iron dated gloves fetching 1500 quid!

Well the question as to whether allowing pros to compete in the Olympics was a good idea has been answered, they've all been eliminated, not one getting through to the quarter final rounds.

Just watched a young French lad batter an ex IBF world champ from Thailand at 60kg (I'm not going to try to spell either name). Ref was right to stop it too.

it really is a different sport. you could see this in the prize fighter series.the most unexpected results kept popping up as some adjusted back to 3 rounds and some didn't.

i think another massive factor is same day weigh ins at the olympics coupled with fights so regular over the period. if you're a pro you are used to the peaks of fighting over 12 rounds a couple of times a year and being able to pile weight back on after a day before weigh in.....none of that back in the amateur code.

every time the olympics come around i go on to the missus about wanting to fence. i've always seen fencing and boxing as intrinsically linked and i've always found reading about the fore fathers of modern boxing like Broughton and Figg that they were all master fencers as well as pugilists..

well i've gone and done it. i start next week.!... i can't wait actually, and i'm really eager to see how it feels. as a natural southpaw i want to hold the sword in my right hand like a jab.....and interestingly this is the natural lead hand in fencing so even though i'm the wrong way round in boxing it makes me the right way round in fencing!...

interesting read for those as nerdy as me....

Yep, me too, I was watching it last night and thinking I'd love to have a do at it. I did some Kendo years ago, similar sort of appreciation of distance movement and hand speed (with a lot more shouting) although you can circle in Kendo, the thing with fencing is it seems very 1 dimensional.

Kendo and Fencing are seen as upper crust past times in their respective cultures, so not as popular as they might be otherwise but there is likely a club nearish to you, what's the worst that can happen? (Obviously you can have someone's eye out with that so be careful)

I've just read that article and it is interesting, it also has enlightened me as to why I've tended to box southpaw, I didn't when I boxed very briefly as a kid and I've always blamed my dad who was left handed and took me on the pads as a kid, but I think having read that it's probably the years I spent doing sword practice in Aikido and the bit of kendo and Iado that I did, where you had no option but to lead right leg and right hand on top.
