Feels a bit odd watching the amateurs without the headguards.

I've just read that Marcos Maidana has retired. His fight with Khan is one my all time favourites, and can't forget him putting Broner in his place biggrin

Joshua buatsi smashed the #3 ranked uzbek!!!...future superstar right there!!!. Hooe he medals now....come on GB!!!cool
Agreed he did look very impressive!
Amazing display. Not just the great shots but the way he handled the uzbek's wily stylr. This guy really is no mug, even in the clinches he was getting digs to the uzbeks head. Hope he gets through to a medal, would be a shame if this fight was for nothing.

you really don't understand this sport.
I understand only one of us has been banned from a sports forum for talking out of his arse, and that would be you and the Liverpool thread.

Buatsi has the potential to be the 'find' of the Olympics not just out of boxing but just about every other sport too. There is going to be a long queue of promoters trying to get a piece of him after the games have finished. 2 KO wins against two decent fighters. The Uzbek lad should have been pulled out earlier though, that first knock down did all of the damage.

I'd imagine the phone is ringing off the hook already. He's got a big future.

What really caught my eye about Buatsi is his footwork...he just gliiiiides around the ring! Amazing for a light-heavyweight...

buatsi's left foot CONSTANTLY taking the outside....very hard to do against a southpaw who will have spent his entire life taking the outside lead to control the positioning and get our shots off.

A+

Well a deserved bronze for buatsi. Mick conlon got absolutely fking ripped off there. I hope both of them turn pro now.

Wladimir is taking fury to court for trying to fk about with a contract that's already been signed by both parties. I'm getting sick of this and can't help thinking these constant delay tactics from tyson are to keep wlad out of the ring for as long as possible.

THE MICHAEL CONLAN controversy took another cruel turn this evening as it emerged that the Russian boxer who knocked him out of the Olympics is unlikely to fight in the semi-finals due to his injuries.

Even worse, the judges have been sent home and not allowed to judge anymore fights for the foreseeable!

apparently the judges won't be invited to officiate again.....not that it will help conlon much!....

in a situation like this you'd think conlon would be invited to take the place of the injured russian....seeing as he beat him clearly any way!!

Turns out the judges have not been sent home; two have since judged further fights

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/r...

"Sillva Do Rosario, from the host nation Brazil, and Udeni Kiridena, from Sri Lanka, acted as judges in the men's flyweight and women's middleweight quarter-finals respectively in the Riocentro...While the other scoring judge, Poland's Mariusz Gorny, did not officiate yesterday there was no confirmation as to whether he would play a further role in the tournament".
