Well, I'd agree the 118-110 was wide, but thought Johnny Nelson having Relikh up by a round after the 10th was pretty baffling too. 116-112 didn't feel too wide of the mark but I may have had it a round closer.

Must say, Adam Smith's commentary is beginning to grate...he seems to become overly effusive during periods when the 'away' fighter is having success; both Relikh last night and Linares a couple of weeks back.

Overall, delighted for Burns that he got through this potential banana-skin; hopefully he can now get the big fight and big payday his commitment and determination deserves...

Only one winner for me, its hard to gauge from the telly how hard Relilh was landing but I don't think Ricky was ever really shaken up and he was obviously the more skilled straight forward boxer, landing straight punches timed to perfection. I'm so glad Ricky Burns has recovered his career after the financial stuff and loosing his belts, he's such a pro just does everything right and never stops. Eddie suggested last night a Vegas fight with Broner is in the pipeline, that would be great, he's everything Broner isn't, (does Kevin Keegan voice) I would love it if he boxed Broner up for 12 rounds.

I thought Burns won by a couple of rounds but he was shaken up a couple of times....once quite badly.

Was a good fight to watch.

What does that mean though? He is 37 years old!

Yep, I think it's a clear indication from Ortiz's team they want their man in the mix, and to do that they're better off focusing on this side of the pond...

Just saw a tweet from David Haye, apparently Klitschko v Joshua is a done deal. Any confirmed sources?

If this is the case, what does that mean for AJs mandatory defence? Would he have to give up the belt?

I won't bore everyone again with the details but basically if the IBF and WBA both agree AJ-WK as a unification fight then that would supersede Joshua's mandatory defence against Parker. Also, Parker himself is apparently negotiating a fight with Andy Ruiz for the (probably) soon-to-be vacant WBO belt, so would potentially be looking to give up his IBF mandatory status anyway.

Makes sense. Thanks for that.

Does anyone give AJ much of a chance against Klitchsko?

I'd say it's 50/50. Vlad did look pretty ordinary against Fury for long periods, if he is that laid back or unable to take it to Joshua I can see Joshua knocking him down because there is no doubt Joshua's right hand has real knockout power in it (unlike Furys) and Joshua may not be as lanky and rangy as Fury but he's still pretty huge. That said if Joshua gets clipped (like he did against Whyte) there is no doubt Vlad will be able to capitalise, Joshua has gaps in his technique and experience and his movement is pretty orthodox.

I'd be interested to see what the bookies make of it, it's not one I'd bet the house on (and I did put money on Fury to beat Vlad).

Although he is knocking on a bit I think Wlad has got what it takes to beat AJ quite convincingly. Wlad's only defeat in 10 years has come against a very unorthodox fighter in Fury. Wlad looked confused and was off his game for much of that fight.

AJ is a bit more direct and as mentioned a pretty orthodox fighter. I think an ageing Wlad is still a few fights too early for him. The only way I see him doing it is to explode out of his corner for the first few rounds and put Wlad away very early on.

As Fury has now relinquished the WBA Super title it'll be interesting to see if the WBA use Browne's next fight which might be against Haye as an eliminator for that one. Either way all the Fury related matters for the last 6 months has really put the cat in amongst the pigeons now. Two vacant titles and the prospect of AJ vs Wlad is all very interesting.

I think this fight is 5 years too late for WK

I know he still has a few fights in him but against a huge hitter like AJ then he will struggle; especially as the fight goes on into the later rounds.

The remit from the AJ camp would be to stay out of the way and keep Wlad on the end of his jab for the first five rounds, then all being well start the heavy work thereon after.

AJ has strength, stamina and age on his side plus the determination to take the belts - it would take some very foolish boxing from AJ to lose
