this is terrible to watch

never seen ortiz before but read so much about his smart boxing with power and variety of shots, seen none of it against a guy he should have dropped permanently a long time ago

I'm not surprised the way it went, Ortiz showed a lack of creativity from the start and also no great combination punching or ability to select the correct punches, you can't blame Malik Scot for not wanting to be knocked out and it would give Haye a boner watching that I suspect he thinks Ortiz would be made for him, 4 or 5 rounds of high pace movement and wait for frustration and tiredness to kick in. Bang. AJ not so much.

I must say I think Jamie McDonald won confortable, I was much more in line with the judges scoring than the commentary, but he needs to move up he's to tall for that division and did look a bit drained.

I thought AJ would have coped just fine with the Ortiz we saw last night. One thing Ortiz would not be able to do against AJ is put him on the back foot so easily.

What are people's opinion on Frank Warren/BoxNation & BT Sport deal?

Just seen the Boxnation/BT sport deal and that is great news for me.

As I was already paying for Sky and BT sport then Boxnation was a fee too far - who can afford to pay for all these subscriptions for sport?

Yesterday I was considering getting rid of bt sport in favour of the ufc app and fight pass on the firestick but if Box Nation is teaming up with bt sport then I'll have to reconsider. It's good news that after tears of struggling to watch any boxing on tv I'm now struggling to find time to watch it all.

I remember watching that when it was on. Such a tear up, But that nagging feeling that it wasn't doing either of their long term health any good.

I do recall wondering when that would be stopped when it was on. You can't imagine that would have gone on as long as it did if it were in the last couple of years!

To be honest, I've got mixed feelings about it. In theory, it should be great for boxing over here and could significantly help boxing re-establish itself as a mainstream sport. However, it may depend on how co-operatively Queensbury Promotions and Matchroom can co-exist. Eddie Hearn has generally been amenable to allowing his fighters to fight each other (where it makes sense to do so) - if the talent pool ends up getting split between the two organisations and the relationship between them is factional or antagonistic, it becomes that much harder for the fights that should be made to actually get delivered...and that will clearly harm the sport's image as it reinforces that accusation that all too rarely do you get to see the best fighting the best in boxing.

From a personal perspective, I'm slightly miffed as I have both BT Sports and BoxNation already, so part of me feels that I'll effectively end up paying twice for those 20 shared cards a year being talked about. That said, given those types of show presently aren't shown on BT at all and once-in-a-blue moon on BoxNation (as Queensbury really has neither the finances nor the roster to be able to stage such events with any regularity at the moment) you could argue that I'll end up getting more for my money than I do currently...

ward has got a great chin. ward has got one of the best inside games in the sport.....kovalav will have to work really hard at range to catch him...and even if he does can he put a dent in a seemingly cast iron jaw( ward has never been off his feet amateur or pro)....

ward ud wide is most likely i reckon.

in other news looks like i was right about mairis breidis being on the bellew bill......tony got his hands full here i reckon...

I think Ward wins against Kovalev by UD. He's just too good in defense. Almost as slick as Mayweather, it wasn't until he picked apart Froch who barely hit him all fight a few years ago that I started to appreciate his skills.

I've never seen such unanimous agreement on the outcome and nature of victory for a bout.

In which case I will go for Kovalev in round 1 by knockout. wink

I think Ward wins but it won't be an easy night for him. I just don't think he's the fighter he once was and that's due to a 3 year lay off during his prime years. But even after the lay off, it's hard to look past a guy who took on the best of the best in the Super 6 and dominated everyone with relative ease.

A lot of people look past Kovalev's boxing skill and see him as only a power puncher but he's that and so much more. When he uses his jab, he's very effective.

But overall I still think Ward will win. I expect to see him make Kovalev miss at range and then get in close to remove any chance of those big bombs landing. He'll have to fight the perfect fight to win though.

In other news, I was in Vegas last week so I'm a little bit gutted that our holiday finished 1 week shy of this fight. I would have loved to have watched it live in Vegas!

Oh, I met Leon Spinks too! I was walking through the Planet Hollywood hotel to meet some friends when I spotted him sat at a table doing signings. No-one had a clue who it was so I went over and had a chat with him, got his autograph and had a few photos with him. Sadly his boxing career has clearly taken it's toll on him as he was very clearly punch drunk but he seemed a lovely guy and was very accomodating!
