I think Bellew himself has started to believe his own rhetoric.

Bellew on whyte as his next opponent:

"I'm not going to knock out the best heavyweight in the world outside the champions and then fight a guy who lost for the British title."

Is he hoping most people didn't watch it. Haye must be seething when he reads this shyte

Love me some Bellew. When he's coming off a good win he comes out with some absolute corkers. With the abuse he got in the build up to this fight, I don't blame him blowing his own trumpet. He shouldn't cower away and be ashamed. He beat Haye fair and square. I say this while wearing a vintage Hayemaker t-shirt, from when he was popular and actually decent. Bellew beats him in a rematch btw. smile

If they did have a rematch and Haye somehow goes uninjured and fights the same way as he did in rounds 3 through to 5 then even this shot to st version beats Bellew.

But you're right, he did beat Haye fair and square but I can't help but chuckle to myself when I see him on TV talking as though he has just beaten a prime Ali.

Now? He's always been a tt!

He really does have delusions of grandeur.

One of my favourite Bellew moments:

Well, in fairness, I can see why Bellew might still be upset about the things said in the build-up. Like, "I won't be happy until I retire him, I want to hurt him and I want to finish him". I mean, even for fighting men, it really can't be nice to hear that sort of thing being said about you; you know, having your health and your livelihood threatened like that...

Oh, hang on...sorry, wrong build-up! Just double-checked; that was actually a quote from Bellew on his intentions towards Nathan Cleverly just before their re-match in 2014. Now fancy that, eh?! wink

A good point well made. It was Bellew's behaviour in the build up to the first fight with Cleverly that formed my opinion of him, and everything he has done since has just reinforced that.

He is a deluded hypocrite.

'New £42m boxing tournament set to feature world's best 16 fighters from two divisions in shootout'

This could be exciting if it goes smoothly

I hope that happens.

Which 2x divisions would we all most like to see?

My two would be:

Super featherweight (two reasons- Lomachenko and Davies)

Middleweight- IF Golovkin AND Alverez were signed up

Welterweight would be intriguing too. Perhaps Khan could be included, unless it was beneath him like everything else.

Ah, well, in defence of Bellew there, all that Nick Cotton stuff was comedy gold...! My only (minor) beef with Bellew is him making himself look a bit of a wally by trying to claim the moral high ground now.

It's actually quite tough to call. Personally, I think it would work best where you have (ideally) eight fighters all reasonably evenly matched, without either a leviathan who looks like they would sweep all before them or a superstar with a super-ego who wouldn't participate.

As such, at this moment I think the Cruiserweight division is probably closest to that. An eight-man tournament with Gassiev, Usyk, Breidis, Lebedev, Glowacki, Shumenov, Huck and Bellew feels about right!

ETA - looks good on paper but in reality there would probably be F-all interest from the US in that one. Possibly Featherweight; Santa Cruz, Frampton, Mares, Russell jr, Selby, Valdez...maybe Quigg and, I don't know, Donaire stepping back up to get some Far-East involvement as well or Walters stepping down again (assuming his head is in the right space)?

I think welterweight meets those requirements. Plus plenty of USA interest, along with a potential Garcia-Thurman rematch.

On paper, yes, but I could quite conceivably see Pacquiao (as well as Khan) choosing to explore other options. There was a fair amount of criticism of the Super-Six tournament for not including Lucien Bute (albeit quietened down when Froch dismantled him first fight afterwards)...if a luminary like Pacquiao wasn't involved there would always be the lingering doubt over whether the winner was the true King of the division...

Personally I wouldn't care if Pacman and Khan were not involved. In the grander picture of the welterweight division they are actually fairly irrelevant.

Pacquaio only has 1-2 fights left in him really, I can't see him boxing in 2018. Khan should want to be involved, but would want daft money for it.

Khan, yeah maybe, though he'd generate a lot of interest (and $$$) by being involved. Pacquiao though, a legend, the biggest name in the division and a current Welterweight world title holder; hmm...not so easy to dismiss for me.

from a brittish perspective I would love the super middle weight division groves-degale-smith-golovkin (get him stepping up!)-dirells-Abrahams(maybe)

Anyway, watched this earlier shows schaffer and sauerland running things.
