I saw that at a memorabilia fair in Birmingham about 10 years ago I think.....fking huge thing it was. I remember thinking at the time that 995 quid for a book was nuts.....looking at the price of it in that link I probably should have bust out the credit card!!!!
Did the one you saw in Birmingham also come with the dolphin and inflatable tyre? If not, that's probably what's behind the difference in prices...

That fkin' dolphin man, that alone is probably worth half the money being asked.

this qoute from naomi campbell on the website has probably helped a bit though....

NAOMI CAMPBELL
“My favorite Book is GOAT! It represents Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali in every way, giving us great insight into what we have never seen before of one the most amazing boxers in history, as well as peacemaker and hostage-deal breaker!...i liked it so much that after spending all day in the pool rubbing my sweaty arse all over this dolphin's back i missed dinner and spent all night reading this book.”

On the understanding that it's the same dolphin, $6k seems a bit of a snip on reflection!

yeah, you'd have to read the small print.i mean, dan rafael is a known boxing guy who has some cool memorabilia.....i'm not sure i'd want fat dan's dolphin, had it been subjected to the same treatment

David Haye talking about a come back.

http://www.boxingnews24.com/2015/11/david-haye-ask...

Now he's said that before and done nothing. Seems a bit pointless to me, he's 35 and hasn't fought in 3 years. I can't see why he'd be anymore likely to beat a heavyweight champion now than he was there. The size of Klitschko and Wilder just give them to much of an advantage.

So domestic pay day against Fury or Joshua then retire again?
i'd back him against wilder right now, 3 years out or not!....have you seen the sparring footage!!...wilder starched by a jab..
The thought that has occurred is that if Haye is genuine about making a come back why has he just sold his ring?

Did anyone see the Hughie Fury fight over the weekend? Apparently he knocked down an journey man in a couple of rounds.

Not sure what to make of Hughie. The general view seems to be "He's 21, very young for a heavy weight. He's still learning his trade". Now I accept that argument to a point but he's now undefeated in 17 fights, against very unremarkable opponents. Typically a heavyweight it looking for a championship around his 30th fight. To me it getting to the point where the quality of the opposition he's facing should start nudging up a little.

The commentator was saying that Hughie had to be very careful not to get injured as he did not want to jepordise his fight on the Klitchko bill in a few weeks time.
The fight between Blackwell & Arnfield was a peach of a fight, Arnfield only took the fight at 8 days notice, as the original opponent got cut in training. I thought it was closer than the scorecards but there you go.

I take it there's some UFC watchers in the thread. Its not something I watch tbh but having read the shizz in the press re Rousey vs Holm I thought I'd seek it out on that there ewechoob to see what the fuss was about.

Now, forgive me if I'm wrong but Rousey was absolutely schooled by Holm such that you'd be forgiven for thinking who was the champ and who was the challenger. Rousey looked crap to me, which rather begs the question has she fought anyone of note yet? Is the competition for women in UFC any good or was she just the best of a bad bunch?

Curious really.

haye isn't coming back unless it's a title shot. it wasn't lost on me that he was present at the ruslan chagaev/fres oquendo fight for the regular wba strap as a guest of the chechen president no less.
i think he would fight anyone for a belt as long as their name wasn't klitschko. and ,povetkin aside(who's recent run has been phenominal and i would have as a 50/50 fight with haye) i think he'd beat them all too

i don't get dragged in to the whole mma versus boxing thing. it's nonsense. boxing is one part of mma so it stands to reason that a pure boxer will have better boxing than a mma fighter . same goes for a muay thai guy. or a greco roman wrestler. the very nature of the sport dictates that you must be a jack of all trades so to speak......

one thing i will say , though , is that in the ufc there seems to be a minute number of active fighters compared to pro boxing, particularly so in womens mma. in essence rowsey has been dominating a very small puddle of fighters and beating them all with the arm bar. until the last few fights i have looked on her as a bit of a one trick pony but to be fair her stand up has improved over the last few fights.

however, she has just gone in with someone who is a veteran of 45 pro boxing contests and god knows how many kick boxing bouts before turning to mma about a dozen fights ago. correct me if i'm wrong but she is unbeaten in mma to this point.

rousey is a judo player who's learned to do other things but i think holm has a greater striking skillset. to all intents and purposes that fight was primarily a boxing match with kicking too. both things that holm is more experienced in.

it did shock me , however, that someone who is proclaiming themselves as the greatest female fighter of all time was so st at boxing. i mean, that was the basics she was lacking in. her movement was nothing but bull rushes and she didn't even notice that holm was taking the outside off the lead foot to get the stright lefts through. it's got to be a bit embarrasing after all the stuff like calling out mayweather and so on.

Haye has just announced he's teaming up with Shane McGuigan...so looks like this is for real.

Very publicly dismantles gym etc. Now hires a new trainer and lines up a fight. Am I the only one confused by this. confused

He's not the big box office draw (well UK at least) that he used to be after a long spell of inactivity and two withdrawals from fights against Fury. So making a big song and dance about officially retiring and closing down his gym isn't really going to increase his chances of a better pay day should he step back in the ring. Mayweather doing this on the other hand would very likely be a very different matter.

None the less I'd be happy to see Haye make a return as a fight against Joshua or Wilder would be very interesting indeed.

Well, McGuigan's gym is in Battersea, which is about a mile away from where Haye had his set-up in Vauxhall, so wouldn't seem much point in keeping the latter going if Haye is happy enough training in the former.

Also, the 'high profile' dismantling of Haye's gym a) got some publicity to remind everybody who he was and what he'd done (no bad thing if you're about to launch a comeback!) and b) made sure everyone was aware the ring was up for sale on eBay, no doubt adding a few £k to the price it sold for! Pretty shrewd when you think about it, although that and the comeback does prompt the question of whether Haye is actually in need of a few quid. You'd hope not given his career earnings, but he wouldn't be the first fighter to find himself in that situation...

I was going to say he needs to bring home the bacon but he's still vegan isn't he?

I suspect Tyson Fury would still relish the chance to get Haye in the ring but it wouldn't be on Hayes terms anymore I don't think, especially if Tyson looks good or even beats Klitschko (it's not impossible!).

fun fact of the day!!!!....

a fighter from the early 1900's called joe gans coined the phrase "bring home the bacon"

his mother apparently was a bacon fan and every time he fought he bought her a load of bacon!!

oh, and the phrase " the bigger they come the harder they fall" was uttered by bob fitzimmons before he fought jim jeffries

and that spot on your rib cage just under the sternum??.....fitz stopped gentleman jim corbett by punching him on that exact spot and when his manager was talking to the press after the fight he refered to this secret punch they had been working on called the "solar plexus" punch....made it up on the spot....apparently it stuck from that day....

not sure how true all that is but i've read them in various boxing books over the years

For me, it is just as intruiging - perhaps even more so - to see how McGuigan gets on. He's obviously had great success with Carl Frampton and so is a bit of a hot property at the moment (I note George Groves specifically mentioned him too a few weeks ago as a prospective new trainer), but until he can repeat the success elsewhere there'll always be the question of whether McGuigan lucked out by landing a premium quality fighter rather than him actually being a premium quality trainer.

For a similar reason, that's why Andy Lee winning the world Middleweight title was so important for Adam Booth. It proved that he was a world-class trainer rather than a decent trainer who happened to have a world-class talent (pre-injury Haye) to work with...

That's interesting - didn't know the solar plexus one! There are quite a few phrases that have their roots in boxing...'coming up to scratch' and 'throwing your hat in the ring' a couple of other well-known examples... smile

good points actually mate, i need to scour the internet to see what frampton looked like as an amateur before shane got involved.i was thinking that carl's skill at mid to close quarters would be a good fit with haye and how he fights......but if that wasn't taught by shane and was carl's "natural" style of fighting it might flatter to decieve in terms of shane's merits
