Cotto got shafted.

I had it 7-5 rounds to Cotto.

I love Carl don't get me wrong but he just can't help himself can he hehe
Yeah, and with Paul Smith stood next to him too! Still, in fairness, I was fearing the same myself...

Carl's ego will see him come back to boxing and Golovkin will end up flattening him.

Just watched the fight - can't say Cotto got shafted on the outcome but would agree the scorecards were some way away from the reality of the fight, at least how I saw it. I thought it was, for the greater part, nip 'n' tuck, with maybe Alvarez just putting a of daylight between them down the stretch. Very enjoyable fight though and all credit to Cotto for being able to perform like that at this stage in his career.

ETA: the word that has been censored above is c-h-i-n-k...to be clear, this is not being used as a slang/derogatory term for the Chinese! smile

I think everyone was thinking it. We see it in all sports, the underdog gets that shot and if they don't take it the replay usually goes to expectations.

Can't say I know loads about him but from watching both fights I'd never have had him as inferior any way.

I'm always wary of LV judges and the persuasion that money may influence them.

Anyway to quote Alvarez and the BBC

Alvarez, who has won 46 of his 48 professional fights, now wants to face unbeaten Kazakh Gennady Golovkin.

"If he wants to fight right now, I'll put on the gloves and fight him right now," said Alvarez.

Good luck to him then. I cannot see it being humanly possible to give Golovkin a challenge at middleweight

I knew Crolla would do it! Has a British gym ever had the success that Joe Gallagher is having at the moment? 3 or 4 world champs all in the same gym? Amazing!

Murray is just as whisker from the top level it seems, a shame I'd love him to get another crack.

Saul Alvarez is 25 years old and already well over 40 pro wins, only loss to Floyd, he could be one of histories greats, awesome power for a man his size and he's a ginger Mexican - who doesn't like a ginger Mexican? Cotto should probably retire now, for me he looked a split second out last night, I doubt he will though, would look good on amir khan's cv

Edited to add: Apparently according t'web, old man galzaghe had 3 world title fighters at one point, Joe, Macranelli and Gavin Reese, Joe Gallagher now has 3 but with callum smith and some others on the cusp... I wonder what it would cost to get a few hours on the pads with Joe Gallagher right now?

Calzaghe was the one that sprang to mind...think he won Boxing trainer of the year and BBC SPOTY coach of the year at that time...

wow!!!

crolla's win was , for me, as emotionally charged as bruno lifting the wbc strap after that torrid last round against mccall.

absolutely made up for the lad and the manner of the victory. it was so conclusive, much the same type of performance as last time but he looked a little faster and a little stronger. i reckon perez knew that his last performance wasn't a fluke by the time the second round was underway .i really feel that confidence in him that he had before derry mathews burst his bubble a few years ago is back. the nature of that defeat and what followed has really steeled him i think.

wasn't too impressed with burnett , particularly after our discussions here and the article in boxing news. i know jason booth is a bit slippery but he is 38! a young lion should have really capitalized on that knockdown.

martin murray just doesn't look to now have that intensity he had down at middleweight....for me that was a fair result. in my eyes he lost that by a couple of rounds. it certainly wasn't a robbery.

the scorecards in canelo/cotto were stupid.....but it was the right result...when he landed he landed crisp clean and hard...watching that fight and some re runs of a few other fights to look at his footwork having noted how he couldn't really shut cotto down.......

.....the net result? footwork will win the fight for golovkin should they fight.

I haven't seen that yet, but will look out for it. Although these quotes from wladimir seem to sum it up well..

Wladimir Klitschko says Tyson Fury "has a brain the size of a squirrel's" in the build-up to their heavyweight world title fight in Germany on 28 November.

"As for calling me a devil-worshipper [for liking magic tricks], that's just stupid. When Tyson Fury starts working in the circus, he'll be working with some amazing magicians.

"And if he still believes it's magic, well, between you and me, it's not magic at all but just tricks. But I will do some magic on Tyson Fury in Dusseldorf - I'll knock him out and make him disappear from boxing."

For me Tyson has always been an absolute joke - he's just a village idiot who's big and from what I've seen he doesn't have any technique. 99% of what he comes out with is also bizarre - including the preamble with Wlad - so he's never had any credibility in my eyes, at least with this you can maybe try and say he's attempting to sell the ppv.

However I'd suggest you tune in to this one, he comes out with some interesting stuff. Wlad is an intelligent guy but I actually think Tyson unnerves him a little by actually playing the straight guy and not the idiot.

he always looked awkward, like he was made out of lego bricks.....but fk me that guy was effective! when you look through his resume his only blemishes were byrd and lennox.....both fights he was winning before an injury stopped the fight

when you look at what he did as an amateur and as a kickboxer,, the man was just born to fight.

even at 44 if he was to come out of reirement yet again and enforce his "champion emeritus" status i would favour him against wilder right now. and most of the rest of them to be honest!
