KJT has got bags of talent. I think she is just lacking in experience of major championships. Hopefully she can learn from this and come back even better next year. That would be great to have JEH and KJT fully fit and ready battling for gold at Rio.

Greg is up today. I love GR, always seems like such a nice chap, puts up with so much abuse and keeps smiling. I hope he does it today. I think he only lives a few miles away from me, never seen him though.
Interesting comment from GR in today's Guardian saying that the LJ track in Beijing is fast and that probably contributed to KJT's inability to adjust her run-up sufficiently. Hopefully they'll both jump well in the individual events.

I don't see why with modern technology that a jump zone of sorts could replace the traditional board, then your jump could simply be measured from your take off point electronically.

Nice work from Rutherford to complete his collection of golds. Good to see Rudisha win gold too - his running style is so fluid and great to watch.

Indeed - doesn't that make him the current Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth champion?! Great effort!

No fluke!

Only Christie, Thompson, Gunnell and Edwards have achieved the same 'slam.'

Fantastic achievement.

Good effort indeed. I didn't rate or like him from what I saw at the Olympics. What he's done since shows he is made of the real stuff, even though it's a shame Jessie Owens or Carl Lewis aren't around to show him how real long jumpers do it. wink

Also current holder of the British record as well. Plus he rescued an injured deer when out for a walk. Total legend.

I don't think she held all 4 golds for the same distance..... I can't find her on Twitter?

You're right, sorry. Quick check on Wiki gives the European gold at 400m, the others at 800m. Or 3 golds and a silver at 400m, whichever way you want to look at it...

She's

Her saying it was in a retweet from Linford Christie saying 'Welcome to the club #all4'

Great performance from Rutherford! He's the quintessential championship performer and always gets it right.

Rudisha pulled it out again-in different fashion to London but he still knows how to win. It's so hard to go around someone in the 800m and Rudisha knows it and makes all the right moves at the right times-it's the same as Mo does just in a shorter race.

Performance of the night for me was Genzebe Dibaba though-according to the BBC she ran the last 800m in 1:57.2 which is just insane!! That's the second fastest 800m this year overall! She's redefining what is possible for women's 1500m running this year.

Various Twittering journalists saying it was nearer 1:59.x but astonishing nonetheless, which sadly brings it's own suspicions too. Alongside the reports that the Kenyan athletes are being warned of impending drug tests rather than the official protocol of it being no-notice, my cynicism is shouting. I hope I'm wrong.

In better news, it was a good morning session for the Brits with (all?) 7 qualifying for the next rounds of their events.

I feel a bit sorry for Greg Rutherford he should be absolutely delighted but he seemed a bit underwhelmed.
To hold the titles he now does is outstanding a fantastic effort I would much rather be known for winning major championships than for jumping long distances everywhere apart from major championships.
Well done Greg and please smile and enjoy your performance.

I'd say the "lucky win" comments from the Olymipics are not easily forgotten however to see him celebrating on track I wouldn't call him underwhelmed!

In other news, how the hell can you run in someone else's lane and not get disqualified?

There is something up with Greg. He has made a few comments about British Athletics and feeling like he lacks support. I know nothing about the organisation but I suspect the person who speaks out about it is even more ostracized.

Also he gets a lot of abuse, I follow on him on Twitter and whilst he responds well and seems to take it I guess it would take its toll on you after a while.

Imagine the effort and training it takes to do what he has done, only for people to say, he's lucky, its a fluke. There maybe people who can jump further than him but if they can't deliver when it matters then its irrelevant. Even world records can be broken, he will be always be a World/Olympic/European/Commonwealth champion.

As long as you don't impede the other athlete(s) and don't run a shorter distance than you're meant to, then it's usually ignored.

The lack of any sort of remorse rankles with many. You'll also find that most of those angry about Gatlin are also shouting for longer/lifetime bans. I do agree that deciding on a specific athlete as the "villain" is foolish though. Gatlin is human, he made mistakes (although a little contrition would go a long way), he has served the bans the sport's governing body has given him.

Bolt safely through, British lad did well too. Gatlin looks faster though frown
Gatlin has been the fastest all season. Bolt still beat him over 100m in the pressure situation of the final.
