"Baseball players are overpaid compared to NFL players".

Feel free to point out why that statement isn't true.
Feel free to explain why, if it is true, NFL players don't decide to go and play baseball instead...

I asked first.

I have an answer to your question but not till you tell me why that statement isn't true.

See above - if it was true then you'd get a massive influx of NFL players into baseball and the wages would adjust accordingly.

Or is it that most sportspeople don't choose a sport because of the money?

As per my OP, the actual monetary amount is not the overriding factor.

So again, point out why that statement isn't true.

So 'all factors' are NOT equal then...

I'm embarrassed I've bothered to engage a troll for this long.

You're either a troll or the thickest person on this site. Take your pick. rolleyes

Your argument is so weak they you now have to resort to insults. How dull.

Can I pick a position, not a sport? 3rd string Quarterback in American Football. Earn millions of dollars over their career and may never throw a ball.

Somebody who has some logic with footballer's wages compared to the major risks in other sports such as F1..
Much more likely to suffer an injury/injuries that will make life difficult in old age as a footballer than an F1 driver.

In a free market surely the demand from people to watch them determines how much they are 'worth'??
Well, you also have to look at the power of labour, which is much higher in football than other industries. Premier League clubs spend 60% or more of their total turnover on wages, not many industries do that!

Possibility of life threatening injuries though?

I'd rather have an injury then have a crash or a part of another car hit me and end my life.

Well, Bo Jackson played both smile (plus loads of others but most from the 60s or before)

People have died of massive heart attacks on football pitches, nobody's died in F1 for almost my entire lifetime (although I'd count Bianchi). F1 isn't very dangerous anymore, lots of motorsport is, of course.

When was the last time a piece of another car hit and killed an F1 driver?

Those were pre-existing heart conditions though so I would say they don't really count i.e. they weren't a direct result of football itself, it could have happened while they were doing any number of physical activities.

Massa came pretty close didn't he?

But anyways, this is something you have to factor in when choosing YOUR overpaid sport: potential frequency of injury vs injury severity. I know I'd rather suffer a lot of minor injuries than one major one.

That's the whole point - it's the power of the market at work. Clubs could only afford to do this due to the demand from supporters.
