This is a stupid thread.
OP, you're an idiot.
Says the man who hasn't pointed out WHY.OP, you're an idiot.
You can jog on too, bellend.
What other professions have wages linked solely to risk of injury and time at work? None!! Why should sportsman be any different?

I'll try and spell it out for you:
I never said sportspeople are paid based solely on those factors, I asked you to come up with a sport that is overpaid BASED ON THOSE FACTORS.
The original question mentioned risk, earning potential and skill. YOU keep trying to throw other factors into the mix that were neither mentioned nor have any bearing on the ones that were.
Market worth does not affect the time a baseball player spends actually playing baseball so, in the context of the question is irrelevant.

I'm sure plenty of sports fall under that category, but that's a meaningless analysis, so I'm not going to waste my time!I never said sportspeople are paid based solely on those factors, I asked you to come up with a sport that is overpaid BASED ON THOSE FACTORS.
Once you're done, perhaps you can spend some time thinking about which sports are overpaid based on the cost of the uniforms they wear or the average weight of the participants.
That would be equally meaningless.

Way back in the mists of time on this thread, I nominated Sumo wrestlers. They generally weigh 300-400lbs and wear nappies. In respect of your proposal, are we considering that to be a good thing or a bad thing...?!Yiliterate said:

In the theme of the original thread - it's up to you, one is as meaningless as the other (which seems to be the point!)Not saying it is de facto the most overpaid sport but I really struggle to think of any other sportsman who has earnt more in relationship to his effort than John Daly. He estimates he lost $55mil gambling so let's round up his earnings to $60mil....
Not sure anyone else gets close....he's been pretty honest with how much effort he put in during his career.
Golf if you get to the top has to be right up there but if you are not in the top of the top it's a fking expensive sport to pursue....I remember stories about Ian Wossnam living in a VW camper van such were the riches he enjoyed in his early days on the European Tour.

He won 2 of golf's 4 major tournaments, as well as plenty of others. Not sure anyone else gets close....he's been pretty honest with how much effort he put in during his career.

Well, you also have to look at the power of labour, which is much higher in football than other industries. Premier League clubs spend 60% or more of their total turnover on wages, not many industries do that!
That's the whole point - it's the power of the market at work. Clubs could only afford to do this due to the demand from supporters.Doesn't Lewis Hamilton earn something like 650k a week? For 19 races a year at roughly 1hr 45mins each? I'd say he's by far the best paid athlete on the planet per time spent doing your job.
Everyone jumps on the footballer wage bandwagon but in actual fact the vast majority earn nowhere near as much as the top earners in football.

Surely it has to be football.
Nope. See above. If you want to divide his $29,000,000 by the minutes he played.....it works out at £23,500 per game, and when I say per game that's my estimate of 5 minutes per game.
£23,500 for every 5 minutes playing a game that involves nothing more than the threat of bruise from a stray ball every once in a while.
Considering fernando and Sebastian earn more, I'd say no

The market decides what a sportsman is worth
If two sports are identical in all ways except one takes 5 minutes and the other takes 3 hours, which one is overpaid compared to the other? To be honest, the whole premise of the thread is daft and the OP doesn't seem to have a clue about ether sport nor economics.

You are an idiot. There's no other way to put it. I'm done.
I'll type this really slowly for you so you can keep up...you are asking a flawed question. Your use of the term 'overpaid' is the flaw. You don't seem to get that they're not 'overpaid' - they're all paid 'market rate'.
I'm oot.

I agree, the question should have read....You don't seem to get that they're not 'overpaid'
Who gets paid the most for doing the least....
Considering the following factors:
Time spent doing the actual thing they get paid for (so visiting sick kids in hospitals doesn't count)
Risks faced
By putting overpaid and skilled in it you made it a nonsense question.
