Evening everyone, just wanted to know the best way to recover from a marathon. What kind of routines do people run through I.e. food, drink and rest through the week.

I ran a 3:24 last week and I am hoping for another sub 3:30 @Chester this week.

Kimd regards.

Unless you stretch normally, I wouldn't bother, though I have never been one for stretching. A gentle jog regularly each day to keep things moving will help.

Were you running hard for the 3:24? If so, I would have thought your chances of repeating the time will be low. If not, you will have emptied your energy deposits and freshly filled them this week. They will be easily accessible and you will be able to do a much faster time....

Good luck and post how you got on!

I am 46 and ran Paris and London 2 weeks apart this year, both in 4:01. I don't stretch, and only ran a little between, but did get blinding cramp at London 5 times. So I would have got a time of about 3:50 without the cramp, make sure you drink plenty and take something with anti-cramp properties!

ps Paris was busy and the flaming supporters were narrowing the runners down causing us to slow, and the drinks were not available towards the end hence the slow time, oh and it was hot.
