First HM done. 02:08:50
Felt fking epic for the first 8 miles, 9-10 were tough and 11 & 12 were hell. Found a second wind just near the end and went for a sprint.
Can't walk now

How much training did you do? How long you been running? My first in Sept.
Doing a half ironman in July. Slightly worried how I am going to do what I did this morning after having already done a 1.9km swim and 92km bike ride.
Finally got under a 50 minute 10k on Sunday, 49:03 in the Kings Lynn 10k (think it's officially the Grand East Anglian Run, not to be confused with the Great Eastern Run) which I'm pretty pleased with. I asked for suggestions a while back on how to run quicker and the suggestion of finding someone to run with has helped immensely, I was quite shocked at how much!
Been getting bad stomach pains when running quicker recently which didn't help, think it's all connected with a cold I'm getting over.

Feel better than I expected today. Foot is a little sore and a bit achey in the legs but not too bad.
Back on the training soon. Now I have the confidence to do the HM within the half-ironman but I also know how painful it was to complete so doing that on top of everything else will be hard.
Can hopefully lose another 1.5-2 stone before then which will make a big difference.

30km of hilly snowy running in the Dolomites today. https://www.strava.com/activities/563081905
Nice little slope to finish...Did a 23km training run on Sunday, went for average pace about 4.30min/km. All went fine and enjoyed the run...went through HM at around 1hr 33min I think so steady enough but Sunday night my knees felt very sore, never had this before.
Had a little read up about it and it seems to be an IT Band issue?, anyone else had this before? Rested yesterday and today they seem almost normal so thinking of going a easy run at lunchtime. Just curious if it has affected anyone else as with all my running I haven't experienced this before!

Loads of bad advice around about ITB, but easily managed for moderate cases. Though in fairness I have never suffered that. All mine have been Shin related

Given you usual speed, those hills must have been quite keen if you dropped down to 20 min miles. Did you actually try to run up them or just fast walk to save energy?
Mix of run and walk. The really slow stuff was trudging through ankle to knee deep snow while trying to route find too!Challo said:

The wife and I have both entered. Be gutted if I get in and she doesn't. I want to do it but she really wants to London and nothing else. I will happily do MK or Manchester if I don't get in. Be great if we both do but I think the chance of that is slim.
The changed the entry system last year so the odds of getting a place are even longer now. As it doesnt cost anything to enter its always worth a punt.If you are a member of a local running club then ask them if they get places as you get much better odds. Mine gets 3-4 places every year and there are around 30 or so people who enter the ballot for them (people who enter London and get a 'no' can use that as a ticket to get a place if they remember to enter).
