Not so positive that he's wearing tights - still shorts weather surely!!
Ha! I'm guessing Cookie's running simply at recovery pace, which should be very easy for him. I'm in marathon recovery mode right now, so too am running at a sedate pace. Perceptively, it feels chillier now than several weeks ago and regretted not wearing a long-sleeve top the other night...

Bright10 (miles, not k!) this morning, confirms to me that I'm not a distance runner, should stick to mile/1500, and I won't be entering any halfs!

Set off with the 80 min train but moved to the rail replacement bus after 4 miles and ended with 86, the only satisfaction being that I spotted my best mate about 70m ahead with a mile to go so had the incentive to chase him down and we finished together which was a nice ending!

I missed out on London too, but to be honest after doing my first GNR this year the thought of more of that congestion and logistical issues put me right off.

I have however completed the Yorkshire marathon just a week ago, which was my first. I had set myself a target of 3:30 and to be honest was bang on at half way as I went through that in 1:41 but I picked up a niggle in my left knee and had to back off a chunk (my aim regardless was to not walk at any point) I managed to get myself through the finish in 3:37 in the end which for my first I was very pleased with.

I do think I can do better as my current fastest half is now 1:33 so I'm thinking with better training sub 3:30 should be achievable. Now planning to do the Edinburgh marathon in may as my next attempt

I ran Yorkshire, too, and found it to be fantastic. As you said, far fewer numbers so it was easy to get into your stride early on and there was no need to fight it out at water stations etc.

I ran large chunks of it with seemingly nobody around me, a refreshing change from the GNR

First big run for me last weekend; I did Hell up North. Half marathon, through bogs, lakes, up steep banks, the whole lot. Took ages, over 3 hours, in part due to queues at the bogs. Good fun though, and I made the distance which I wasn't sure about. At least I can only get faster from here... wink

Just got my London commiseration magazine although it did include quite a nice training top as well. Anyway I'm thinking of doing Brighton instead as it is meant to be quite a good pb course.
Brighton is a good race - there's a soul destroying section around 18-20 miles out towards the power station but it's not too bad.

I have a Brighton place but have mistakenly booked a week in the Lakes so won't be running it.

I also have my reject's training top - will see if I can get a place in the club ballot.
Bah , come down to Devon and do the ex to axe.

20 miles , over 3000ft of climbing along the coast path between Exmouth and Seaton.
I did the Purbeck a couple of weeks ago which is 27 miles with 3700ft of ascent so I'm looking for a PB course now...
Compared to Purbeck most things will take less time even Beachy Head. Think Brighton entries may be closed now - Manchester is similar time of year and a good PB course according to friends who ran Brighton, London and Manchester last year.
I might try Manchester when they make it the correct length and when it takes less time to get your bag than it takes to complete the course hehe

The distance for Manchester was correct this year, due to a course change and requiring a new measurement (thankfully not by the mis-calibrated wheel!), though agree that the baggage collection was still a shambles from all accounts I'd heard.

The good wife gave me a pass to enter another autumn marathon for 2017. Have chosen Yorkshire once again and will hopefully go under 3 hours.

Does anyone get stiff toes when they run?

I've picked up this habit of bending my big toe up when i run , trouble is this then strains the muscle further up towards my ankle.

Himself did the Manchester Half at weekend and says they have definately learnt from the mistakes of the full in April, bag drop was better organised, runners only allowed in the cricket ground, from the finish line to the cricket ground was all fenced off, as was the walk out of the cricket ground to meet up with specatators. He said it was a total opposite from the farce that was the full marathon.

Did a good 10k today with some friends that went really well. Legs and knees have recovered from Berlin but my right ankle is still feeling sore. I'm planning on a 20k on Monday followed by an 8 and then a 4 on Friday. The Frankfurt marathon is the following Sunday so will probably have to pop along to a physio to get the ankle taped up.

Really looking forward to it but there will be no PB unfortunately but I am just looking forward to the atmosphere.

The heat is fading here in the US, but it's now normal to run at 20C most evenings and it feels cool comparatively. I'm doing the Atlanta 10 miler on Sunday but running not racing and it's 428ft of climb so not exactly flat, but there are prizes for the quickest 20 people up Cardiac hill which is about 7 miles in and is like climbing a 12 storey building.
Been putting in a couple of quicker runs as 2 quick Masters (veterans) have started coming to the run group, so the miles are quicker. Still aiming at Missippi half in December and my mate rate a 2:58 Marathon already so I don't have to try to pace him to 20 miles in Missippi marathon so can have a pop at the half.

Happy miles smile

Looks like I'm in a team of 5 or 6 for Endure 24 this year, after running in an 8 the last 2 years. The Mrs is soloing again and her cunning plan this year seems to be to get me to sort out her food as she complained it took ages to get stuff from the food tent last year, so it looks like I might not be getting any sleep biggrin

Apparently our team captain was 112th in the queue a minute after it opened this morning yikes

Managed to bag a place in what is possibly my favourite race of the year: the Brass Monkey Half Marathon.

Only some 1,700 places and they all went within 38 minutes of going live at 6am this morning!

Did it for the first time this year. Won't bother again. Stupidly expensive for hotels, booked months in advance and a lot of waiting around and people clearly starting in the wrong place.

1st marathon in the bag at 3hr 46min. Happy with that. Hamstring cramped up in last 3 miles.
