There is also Glenmore 24 up with us in Scotland! Pretty low key event, couple hundred runners!

On a side note, in London this weekend and the mrs is at an event all day Saturday so i was going to go a run! Staying in Leicester Square and was going to head out about 10am, any tips from folk? Would like to get in a few sight, im assuming on a saturday don't run the main streets as they will be very busy!

Was hoping to get a park run in (Highbury was closest i think?) but won't have time once ive dropped the mrs off!
Head South and follow the river. The South side will be busy between London Eye right down to Tower Bridge but other than that there are plenty of options. Head West and you can go down to Vauxhall, North to Hyde Park (via Buckingham Palace) then back through St James' park into the West End. Depending on how far you go into Hyde Park that could be anything from 5-15km.

Alternatively heading North around Regent's Park and Primrose Hill is another nice option. Plenty of canals you can pick up from there all the way down to The Thames so anything up to 20km is easily possible.

Tempting, but is it worth the 100 emails a day forever from people trying to sell you stuff?

You get an email from SiS every few weeks and can unsubscribe whenever you like.

Not sure why you think you will get spammed? They regularly have free stuff promos.

Completed my first half marathon distance this morning in preparation for the Milton Keynes Winter Half next month. Ran deliberately slower than usual with a target pace of around 5:45 and ended up finishing in just under 2 hours - pleased with that.

Don't know. Might do one more next Sunday and then taper for the next couple of weeks, then an easy week in the run up - but this is all new to me!

Joined the Marathon Grand Slam club yesterday, by completing my running a marathon on each of the 7 continents and at the North Pole. I'm knackered smile

Yesterday was the Volcano Marathon, the highest desert marathon. Think it was around 30C all day with a light breeze, average 4km up a volcanic mountain range, and very technical trail-running for the most part. Mild altitude sickness hit at the beginning (I seem to be susceptible to it) and it took me just over 7 hours to finish in 16th of 25. It was a superb course and probably the toughest race I've ever done. Highly recommended if you like that sort of thing.

Hard as nails, well done. I've been struggling with running of late, having bottled the Snowdonia Trail marathon due to finish and a half with a badly injured foot. Not run for about 3 weeks. :-(

That said, foot is healing nicely, and might sign up to winter fan dance to just remind myself I've gotten too soft.

Did my second 10k this year (Peterhead 10k), was hoping to get under the hour but not expecting much more. Moreso when I had to stop for a pee. Then I cross the line (with one of my shoelaces undone) 2 minutes under my 10k PB. A lass I was with also cut 2 minutes off her PB with a "break" which is more impressive for obviously reasons.

Conclusion - to get a PB, don't aim for one but remember to go for a pee half way through silly

Agreed, looks awesome! Wouldn't be quick at all but would love to do something like that myself.

Cheer for the foam roller tips/vid. Any thoughts on the spikey ones vs the smooth ones? I've got a smooth one, but you know - gadgets and kit...

Also, if you run on holiday, I've found a bottle of the cheapest 2L pop you can find and a towel underneath saves you having to lug a roller away with you.

I have one of these as well as a conventional smooth floor roller, the idea being you can just sit and roll over an area while watching telly or whatever rather than doing a proper routine on it.

Reality is I don't use either of them as often as I should and my legs feel a bit stiff this morning after a very hilly and slippery cross country on Sunday. almost 3 minutes quicker than last year on the same course but still pretty rubbish time of 53 minutes for an 8km biggrin

My roller is split into quarter so you have both spikey and flat bits.

Pretty sure it came from startfitness

Another top tip i got was stick a 500ml bottle of water in the freezer and use this to roll your calf/lower calf i find it works wonders after a hard training session.
I do use the foam roller every day though and the above after a tough work out!

Afternoon all,

I'm relatively new to running after turning my nose up at it my entire life.

First run was Jan last year. Started slowly and built up. Not following any training plan of any sort really, just wanted something to keep/get me fit that didn't take as much time as getting a good cycle in.

Ran the Henley 10km at the beginning of Oct in a couple of seconds under an hour. Was very happy with that.

I'm thinking about working my way up to a half marathon this time next year (nothing more than curiosity to be honest). I do have some feet/calf/shin problems so have to be a bit careful but have found I am really enjoying the off road stuff more and more.

Anyway, that's my ramblings over really.

Happy Monday!

Off roads miles better, no traffic and less impact but you do have to allow time for your ankles to strengthen.

Check out hal higdons half marathon training plans, if you target a summer half you could take twice as long to train and increase the mileage far more gradually.
