Landed in London this morning, so went out in Hyde park for an easy jog which was great to be out and it was quite warm out there. Lots of people around and it was good to get in a few miles before my conferences this week
Mild weather!!
Barely been cold all winter. Talking to one of our club members earlier who did a 10 mile race in Canterbury yesterday- said it was too hot in shorts and t-shirt
I ran three times last week.

Tuesday it was -4 Thursday it was 6 and Sunday it was 13!

Did my second park run yesterday. It was 1c. I managed 26min and 30 seconds (>30mins last week) and it's uphill for the first half. It was not easy! Seems I am suffering from exercise induced asthma. Will go to dr for inhaler.

Quite pleased with my time: I am still 86-87kg and only completed couch to 5k around new year.

I've entered the ballot for the great northern run - half marathon!

Thanks for all the great advice here

I am 89 kg, I ran six miles this morning at 9 minute miles.

Training for Portsmouth Half in two weeks. Have run 10, 11 and 13 milers as my long runs.

Still hoping for a sub two hour time, but think it is a stretch based on my times, however Portsmouth is flat, and there is bound to be a bit of race Adrenalin, so we will see.

Keep seeing weight posted on here, I am certainly haven't lot any weight as a result of running, have lost some inches from my girth, but no actual weight. On the other hand I haven't piled on 4 or 5 kgs, which I often do over Christmas, so a fair result.

I'd love to be 80kg, but it isn't going to happen by running alone.

Travelling last week and this and just got to Singapore and I went for a run on the dreadmill for 7.1 in 50 minutes, so hit my 30 miles for the week, but not a lot of training been going on. This next week looks impossible to get out more than once, but going to try.

Just started a new job and having to run at half 5/6am to get runs in during the week. Gym two/three times a week too.

10km road race today and managed a 41:50, happy enough with that, faster than last year. Paris marathon and Snowdonia trail marathon are my next two running races.

Was it cold?

I've found if it's around freezing my asthma plays up , wearing a buff over my mouth/nose helps as i'm then breathing in warm moist air.

Read my post smile It was around freezing. I did actually read that this helps but it seems I should get an inhaler:

Hopefully, I am fitter than I think and I will be able to go quicker once I have the inhaler. Or not...

I was coughing most of the day yesterday.

Training is going quite well for me, just rain my longest week in a very long time-only 36 miles but much better than I've been doing for the past couple of years.

I also got my first best time on Strava-a flat 0.7 mile section at 5:23 pace in the middle of a 7.5 mile club run which I was very pleased with!

An easy week next week for me and then probably another step up in distance for the next month.

PS I find that running with a scarf/buff over my mouth can help quite a bit in cold and dry conditions, but it has to be set up right!

I bought a Tomtom Cardio Runner 2 last week that has caused me untold annoyance. Just using the basics of it is nothing like as easy as my trusty old Garmin 305. The heart rte monitor is good and I peaked at 201 on Wednesday at our speed session. Not bad for 42 hehe. Then used that to set an easy pace for a 15 mile hilly cross country long stead distance yesterday which worked well.

So far the tomtom gets 4 out of 10

I'm doing a half marathon in a few months and am wondering what sort of ballpark time I'm looking at. I generally avoid road running and my 10K time is around 43 mins. Any idea roughly what sort of HM time I should be aiming for?

My 10k PB is 42:17 (ish) and I've managed a few 1:33 HMs. I'd therefore be looking for 1:40-1:45 if I were you, especially if its your first attempt at that distance.

I found some of the online calculators pretty accurate when estimating times. The Runner's World one reckons around 1:35 as a target for you.

Metatarsalgia (sore toe joints)

What chances of I got nursing this injury for another 6 weeks? I've got a HM on the 20th March, but i'm not convinced I'm going to make it.

I set off an a 10m run two weeks ago in some newish shoes (they probably had done about 10miles spread over two runs), but about half way I started to get a pain on the inside of my arch (this has happened before with new shoes) so I stupidly compensated by running on the outside of my foot, this has resulted on my middle toe joints being sore + the ball of my foot.

Ive tried resting for a week, but no joy.

Painkillers and ibuprofen lube?

or just give the place up and move on?

My only timed 10k was in 43mins and my only half, which I ran about a month before it, was in 1hr 36 so I reckon that's pretty accurate!

Interested to know the details of why you rate it so poorly. I've been using it for a week or 2 now having previously just used the Strava app on my phone) and I can't really fault it. Although I appreciate I've nothing similar to compare it to.

Just been sent this advert from this week's Athletics Weekly

Entertaining that they're using a pic of me and two training partners from the 2008 race.

Edit: As I recall this was not long before Adrian started to pull away - maybe that's why I'm looking at his back! The three of us were working together to get to halfway in 15:00 - Adrian kept going pretty well, Rob and I blew up a bit more!

The "user interface" is absolute crap, it's been designed by a pasty skinned autistic tecky for other pasty skinned autistic teckys.

It comes with a st manual and the PDF online is no better. There may well be a feature that allows it to fly to the moon in there, but you'd never know and what is in the manual is full of waffle.

When I bought the Garmin, I just charged it up and off I went. I plugged this piece of crap into my computer and it started charging, but my computer wanted nothing to do with it in any of the 3 usb sockets. Turns out it needs a really firm push to mount it on its charger, which is clearly going to break sooner rather than later. No mention of any of this in the useless manual.

When I press start I want the stop watch to start, I want pace and distance in smaller boxes, not what ever stupid graphic it feels like putting up and when it does show what I want the two boxes on the bottom are so fking small I can't read them.

Then there's the light. Which ever inadequate virgin designed the fker has clearly never run or ventured outside. Where I live you can go outside in the day light and later it goes dark. To if I want the light on for more than a couple of seconds, I have to stop, stop the watch and delve into the menu to turn the ing light on. Which retard thought that was a good idea? The putting your hand over the screen thing to turn the light on makes it quite clear that the dhead that designed it has never done any running at all.

When I press STOP on my old Garmin, it stops the clock and doesn't go onto a different page and it's obvious the cock has been stop because the clock stops.

Last night at running club:

"you've got one of those Tomtoms too Willy, st aren't they, how do you stop the fking thing?"

Who ever designed should be punched in the face.
