Bekele dropped out after being tripped near the start and Tamirat Tola (who!?) won in 2:04:11. Worknesh Degefa first woman in 2:22:36.

Ethiopia 1,2,3 and 1,2,3.

"Both winners established world leading times and collected 200,000 Dollars each." That's a shed load of money by Ethiopian standards!
They were speculating on Marathon Talk that Bekele would hold back and go for it at London instead. Guess he's got no choice now!

Yeah bit of an anti-climax but still a stunning time, 9th best of all time?

I think your right, they are saying big things about him for 2017 so can see him getting it soon but there's also this Nike sub 2hr marathon stuff going on this year too so will just have to keep an eye on what's what.

Finally getting back to it properly after a few weeks resolving a dicky quad and having a near-death experience of man-flu.

A gentle 10km on the dreadmill made much easier by MarathonTalk podcast.

I'm watching this closely. At my amateur level, chipping another 2 minutes of my PB (to get it downto 2:52/3) would be a huge personal achievement for me. Behind some here but I'd like to do it, just need to avoid beer and takeaways!

To go from 2:02:57 and knock 3 minutes off the world record would be something quite special. It's a big leap when you think Steve Jones held the WR in 1984 at 2:08:05 and in the last few years the improvements have been a few seconds at a time.

Hot chocolate 5k this morning for me and for the 4th time, I ran exactly the same time of 17:45 for a PB, although the last time was nearly 7 years ago, so very pleased. Also got an Age Grade PB over 78% which is very pleasing. 3rd overall in a weak race, but it was still 3rd out of 7500+ and was good fun. SWMBO also got a PB (or PR over here in the US) of 22:07 which was 7:07 per mile, so excellent!

Now need to get a bit more fitness and work on the 10k PB and get past the frustration of 17:45 x 4

I must be one of the few people who actually complete the challenges on runningheroes as they have just sent me an email to say I have won a place in the Bath Half on March 12...

Am considering taking them up on their offer as it starts at 11 and looks like a 2h drive from here. If I leave about 7 then I should be there by 9 which should allow plenty of time to get ready.

I dont think you even need to login any more to record the runs. Just have to check late in the week what the challenges are and enter them (might as well as can always say no if you win).

Aside from the Bath entry I have won:

- Entry into the Geneva marathon (declined as it didnt include flights plus I never expected to win it).
- VIP (flights, hotel, entry) package for the Sfax marathon in Tunisia (declined due to security concerns plus it was 4x laps in the middle of what looked like nowhere from the pictures).
- A hydration backpack worth over £100.
- A box of protein bars (no interest on ebay so ate them instead).
- A roll of Kinesio tape.
- 2x running heroes branded t-shirts.
- A pair of socks (woohoo!)
- Something else that I forget...

Still, not a bad haul considering I log all my runs anyway and just have to link runningheroes to my strava account.

Cheers for the Running Heroes tip - joined up and I guess I'll see what occurs.

As for actual running - I'm very smug. Having tweaked my quad on Christmas day, yesterday I got a 25km LSD done, at target HR and at a better than expected pace. First real long run of January, but I'm mostly pleased I managed the quad properly and was able to get back to running in a sensible time-frame, without overdoing it. Onwards and upwards, though if I don't have to run for 2 1/2 hours in the dark and zero degrees for a while, I'll be happy.

Not sure which direction you're coming from but they've just announced the pre-bookable Bath Racecourse P&R to get to the Bath Half. It will be carnage in the city well before 9am and the free-for-all P&Rs will probably be full by 8:30, so well worth considering...

I will be coming from the Southampton area. My plan was to aim for one of the P&R sites but if they are likeley to be full then that puts a hole in that plan. Thanks for the information.

Looking online the racecourse is on the wrong side of the city for me as well.

One lesser known option is University of Bath, loads of pay and display parking (which is free on a Sunday anyway) and very frequent buses running down into town (£2 return I think). On the right side of town for you as well.

If the train timetable is kind and in conjunction with the 11am start, might be worth parking up a few train stops outside of Bath and commuting the remainder of the journey?

I looked at trains as well. The earliest direct train (1h30 compared to 2h30, 2x changes and more than twice the price) gets into Bath Spa at 11:34 which is no good for a 1100 start.

All the budget hotels are booked or have pushed the prices up due to the event as they are not daft either. Will have a look a bit further out to see what thats like.

What about driving to Trowbridge or similar and training it in from there? https://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/plan-your-journe...

Trowbridge seems well connected, Frome or Warminster far less so.

That looks promising. 1h45 to drive to then either the 0904 or 0911 train arriving in Bath 20 mins or so later. Big car park and £2 all day parking.

Only messing smile

If it hasn't changed since 2013, then it's a 2 lapper with plenty of crowd support out on the course. The start is horribly congested and nobody knows how fast to go because it's downhill, which means a climb back to the finish. Found myself running with Dermot O'Leary for a few minutes.
