Due to transport issues i thought that the best place for a half this week would be in London. Sadly i was not much faster than 5 weeks ago. I trained had over the winter, in the cold, wet and damp and now it looks like i just wasted a load of time and effort training incorrectly. A friend of mine who didn't train in the cold, wet and damp looks as if he will finish 15mins ahead. The joy is immense.

How do you experts handle evening meal times?

I am struggling a bit. I start work around 7am ish and get away from work around 6.
By the time I get home its pretty much close to 630 and I need to eat. I tried running at 7 ish and then eating at 8-830 but I cant sleep then as I have to get my head down by 10 as I need to be up for 620 latest to get in for 7 again.

If I eat before I run I find it really hard so at the moment I am basically running at 9pm ish but I struggle to take on enough fluids before bed and generally wake up in the morning feeling ste.

The weekends are great as I can go for a run around 3pm which seems the perfect time for me. Then spend the afternoon recovering and taking on water and then eating normal time.

I am only doing 5km but I want to try and extend towards 10km over the summer so at the moment I am running (jogging!) 5km in 40 min and obviously 10km would be looking at closer to 1.5 hrs. :\

I have the same issues about not being able to run after an evening meal. I get up early and go out in the mornings, sometimes 5.30am in the summer, or at lunchtimes when I work from home.

could you run in the mornings? i much prefer it (and run from 4:15-5:30am) - it's peaceful and the roads are very quiet. i also find i have more energy at that time, than after coming home from work, so it's easier to get out.

if not, maybe have a snack mid afternoon - and then a very light supper in the evenings after your run.

That's a bit harsh. She wasn't that bad when I saw her.

Not sure, I've not been before, apparently there's an obvious pub with a big beer garden you can see them all slog past from. That sounds like the fountain head?

You've got those winter miles in your legs. Maybe you just had an off day, the benefits will come. How do you mean training incorrectly? Every mile helps

It's only a training run don't beat yourself up over it.

Trust you've trained properly and got the miles in your legs banked up.

I've learnt i'm a right lazy sod training but come race day come up with goods, last half i did i was doing 7.30 min miles , i never did that at any point in training last year but race morning i'm bouncing off the walls.

Race week i go to the gym mon/weds , run on tuesday and that's it, i know race day i'll be totally up for it.

Learn what works for you and trust yourself.

I am still learning, how to race. I train hard, perhaps too hard and when it comes to the races have nothing more to find. Does this make sense? I can usually equal my race performances in training.

Just had a wander up the beach, that looks hard work for running on at the start

Which is a problem, IMHO. Runners should almost always be able to push out better performances in a race environment than in training. You're clearly leaving your race behind in training, so it's no wonder you feel flat on race day.

Are you giving yourself an easy week once every 3 to 4 weeks, with a cutback in mileage and intensity? Are you tapering properly for races? I set myself A, B and C goal races; A races are just that - PB attempts; B races are hard workouts or low-key PB attempts if feeling good; C races are there to supplement training with a specific training pace/distance in mind.

Just seen this - http://www.brightonhalfmarathon.com/bhm-2017/state...

"Following Brighton Half Marathon 2017, we have been contacted by UK Athletics as a result of concerns raised regarding the length of the course.

We take this matter very seriously and we are working with UKA to ensure we investigate these concerns fully.

Further details will be posted as soon as they are available."

There was a lot of talk locally on facebook from people who thought it was short because 'my Garmin says' which you wouldn't usually take too seriously, but lots of people were getting around 13 miles whereas more often they read high.

I'm glad I was only watching it not running!

1:37 on Friday, 1:41 today in a race. I was doing 1:29s 3 years ago so clearly training is going well.

Winter training, cold, wet, dark a horrible place to be and I come out with that. F great! Absolutely went the wrong way with it and should have continued building on the 40:50/10k in Nov. Now I need to get back to that somehow and drop the quantity for quality.

Running is cruel mistress.
