That's a lot of energy, but it can be difficult to gauge. 1 pound of fat is 3,500kcals. Parkrun today, I burned around 600-700 kcals.

Leg pain? Sounds more like doing too much. I've learned that I need sufficient recovery when I run, with the stress on the joints, ankles, and my hams. I cut out all other exercises that affect my lower body pretty much.

Cool smile just ordered some cheap ones from SportsDirect to try out.

Good point about pockets for phones (and keys etc). I've looked at those armbands but they look like they'll just slide off. Are bum bags ok for running in? Any other options?
I use a small old school flip-phone for running with-it's great, really compact and fits into the back pocket of most running shorts/tights.
Well I've got an old Panasonic VS6 flip phone... hehe but TBH I'd only take my phone to use the GPS/route tracking rather than make/receive calls, plus I need somewhere to put my car/house keys, parkrun barcode etc.

I use one of these.
Keys and a phone plays a small soft water pack all go in.
Alternatively I can get 7 gels in there and use it for marathon training/running.

Filfit Unisex Running Belt. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B015WRGJW8/ref=cm_sw_r...

Will be using mine tomorrow at London.

I get on fine with bumbags, first impressions weren't good but got used to them very quickly. Ronhill tend to do oversized gel pockets on their shorts/tights that'll take a smartphone. And I've just adjusted/sewn to size a gel loop on a Decathlon race belt (£4) to accommodate my running phone when I'm wearing that 3/4 tights (which have no pockets.) But the best suggestion I can make is get a GPS watch (even a cheap one) and old light/small PAYG phone that'll fit just about anywhere for emergencies. Unless you need music when you run it's nice to ditch the bulk of a modern smartphone, and get distance/time/pacing at a glance to boot.

I am an official 1h45 pacer at the Southampton half today. Will be a different challenge to racing a half.

Must remember not to go full tilt from the off smile

Got my Garmin 920XT after months of procrastination and set it up last night. A little complex to sync everything up but worked it quite well. Took it for a run out this morning and it seemed to not get full reception for the first reception as my mate had us at a mile when I was at 0.88.
Watch felt light to wear and takes a bit of navigating but great with Garmin connect on the phone and the link direct to strava. Not sure how much I will use all of the other gadgets on it, but it's great to see stride length, cadence and the ability to track on maps easily. Overall, a great purchase from Gearbest which took a while to send it from China, but it's all good smile

Yeah ultimately a GPS watch is all I need really, I'll be on the lookout for one. In the meantime I've ordered a running belt of sorts that can carry stuff so see how I get on with that.

I came in at just under 1h43. A bit ahead of schedule and a few of the 'ducklings' faded when we went up the mile long hill but made a change to run rather than race an event and the people who stayed with us all ticked off the PB.

It's a different challenge trying to keep each split within a few seconds of each other but it's not (for me) a PB course so happy to pace it instead of race it.

Broke my sub 3h 30m target for London today.
Managed a 3h 28m effort. Started off at 7m 45s pace, held it to around 20 then cramp started to get the better if me.
Slowed a bit but hung in there to snatch my PB

I think I'm done with marathons, 2 is more than plenty.

London was fab, glad I had a chance to do it, but I found the busyness of it all rather stressful if truth be told. Difficult to keep a proper pace with so many people to potentially trip over etc.

A friend of mine was the guide for a blind runner in that race today. Just a couple of seconds away from his own PB, such was the urgency to get his runner in on target!

As we were going over the bridge I saw a guided runner on their way back over it. They weren't exactly hanging about smile

A fantastic finish time - well done!

Agreed about London being a bit too chaotic - too many people for a course of that nature.

A friend of ours did London in 2h40 which is a 6(ish) min mile avg. I can't even run that at parkrun let alone hold it over marathon distance. He was allegedly injured as well. Amazing achievement.

I tried to stay with you but came in at 1.43.39 in the end. I wanted to stay with the 1.40 pacer (Nic and can't remember the other chaps name) but I couldn't stay with them through woodmill and Burgess Road killed me in the end, despite running it every other sunday morning. Had a good run down London Road though. My PB is 1.39 so reasonably happy.

Thanks for your help today!

Support is indeed incredible, especially with a name on your top.
With all the people shouting, it's much like the last 100m of a race, but for the entire 26miles!
Easy to get carried away on early pace with the support, but it's great and I found it incredibly emotional.

I was the pacer with the bottle belt. Was the pacing OK as we were meant to get in between 1:44 and 1:45 but were a bit quick at the start so arrived a bit ahead of schedule. The start wasn't actually the white gantry either which caught some people out.

The course is not a PB course compared to Gosport for example as there are too many hills plus it was hot yesterday. Burgess Road is hard work and goes on for a long time so the plan was to be ahead of schedule at that point so if people did slow down they still had some time in the bank.

John was the other 1:40 pacer. I think they came in on schedule as well.

Congrats, that is a good time especially when the course is so busy. I keep thinking that I'm done with marathons but keep thinking that I could set a PB if I do one more....

Afternoon all, have any of you Ran the Brighton Marathon? I registered for it on Friday...So unless I do one before it comes around it'll be my first.

Well done all the VLM runners on here, I'll be in the ballot for 2017.
