Parkrun yesterday, 5 mile race today, 5k inter club race the coming Tuesday evening. 3 races in 4 days seemed a good idea!

Leeds half this weekend. Be happy to get round but aiming for a 2.30 now as training has been going as well as can be expected for a fat bloke. Did 13k at weekend and took 6 minutes off time for that, and 6.5k last night (last one before Sunday) - 2 minutes faster

Bring it on biggrin
How did you get on, some I follow on strava did it and seems it was warm?
Thanks for asking. It was horrific weather to do it in, 25 degrees plus with very little shade on the route. Lots of fantastic spectators with hoses on. The 2 mile climb up Meanwood was tough going

Time suffered a bit as a result and brought it home in 2.48.30 - 20 minutes better than my time for my first one last year

On to the next one!!!! biggrin

Just a short 5k race for me this weekend! New PB, 18.15 smile Was hoping sub 18 but the heat and hill finish just didn't have enough left! Really happy with that after having knee problems through the week!
10k race this coming weekend, hoping for sub 38 but won't be easy then once that's done im onto marathon training for Fort William Marathon!

I was very, very tempted after watching last year. Decided against it in the end as I don't have enough running distance in me to know whether or not I will enjoy it.
A friend who completed it last year suggest I do a 100 mile ultra in preparation. Good luck!

Cheers guys - it's a biggie where a lot can go wrong so hoping I get the rub of the green; doing Cape Wrath Ultra (300 miles/ 8 days) in a few weeks and Great Glen Ultra (70 miles) a month after that and in a way wish I'd been able to decide after those two as my training is always sporadic due to working abroad lots, but entry dates are entry dates...
It's been a long held ambition so fingers & toes crossed...

Good work, I had heard it was baking hot. I might have a crack at it next year, I had considered it this year but had done the Sunderland half last week.

I had heard the crowd was spot on too

Just signed up for Chelmsford marathon in October, will be my 1st marathon and a step up for me from usual 15k runs. Excited and a bit worried.

You sound like someone who has the Spine in the future too...

If you like Welsh ultras, do think about the Ring o Fire - so pretty and much harder than it would appear. I went too hard on day one, ruined my quads on the steps and DNF'd about 1/4 of the way into day two, having fallen to last but one in the field. Even so, it was fab and I'd enter again in a heartbeat.

Oh the Spine - I really hate the cold but yes, of course, it's on the radar; hats off to the chap that did it this year then turned around and walked back to the start, as if things weren't hard enough!
The Ring looks really good - over ten years or so I've racked up a few multi-day runs - MdS a few times, Madagascar, Atacama - but the hardest seem to be the UK ones - my only DNF was in a Scottish multi-day and likewise, setting off too hard was the problem! For clarity, I'm definitely a mid-pack plodder than a racing snake!

OK - so now you guys have me thinking and aiming for the future. i'm 43 and doing mostly road running now and have run for a few years. i've done a couple of ultras (2x Comrades - 2014 and 2015) and some marathons, but all on road. now i train on the fells once a week and would like to look at increasing this.

is it achievable to look at working towards Dragon's back for 2019? i'd obviously have to increase gradually, but do a lot of fell work. i'll join the fell runners association etc

it helps massively that i live on Pendle Hill - the tour of Pendle for next year was already on the cards smile

i also fancy doing something like the Jurassic Coast challenge, possibly next year, but if not, then 2018.

many thanks

And yes, she is now under investigation by the VLM organisers...................
Bit of a bump but apparently she had a 'panic attack' and became confused.

What utter bullst.

This kind of st really grinds my gears. Assume she got one of these "celebrity" spots, fk knows why as she is the sister of a no one, and does this. Meanwhile thousands and thousands of people don't get the chance to run. Waste of an entry slot.

I don't know why London persist with the celeb entries. Its not like they need the attention, its one of (if not the) biggest and most popular marathons in the world and has live coverage on the BBC.

Rant over, as you were.

It's very obvious where the barrier is and you can see people running in the opposite direction . Getting confused is no defence.

I've got no problem with celebs running but this spot could've gone to someone more deserving . On a day when a chap loses his life running she should be ashamed of her actions .

I notice the article said Natasha and a few others will be contacted . What's the point in running a marathon if you're going to cheat ?

Well, you've got youth on your side!
Eminently achievable I would think with a lot of time to build up to it. Nav isn't too much of an issue now it's a set route with .gpx available (mixed feelings on that) but working up to Elite/A class mountain marathons will get you familiar with kit/routine/nav/weather/hill work. Ultras certainly so as to know your fuelling, endurance and pacing and lots of hill work in training for core/strength in legs/lungs. I'd recommend working towards having a bash at things like the GL3D event A/B class (run by the same folk), some trail 50 milers (Hardmoors in your neck of the woods?) & as mentioned JC Challenge or Ring o Fire and take it from there. I'd also rec'd Joe Faulkner's wee courses for some insight - he's done all of the DBs....
Well done on Comrades - I saw a guy at an event wearing a Comrades T and asked if he'd done an up or down year, he looked at me and said he'd done 11 of them! 'nuff said...
