Well, you've got youth on your side!
Eminently achievable I would think with a lot of time to build up to it. Nav isn't too much of an issue now it's a set route with .gpx available (mixed feelings on that) but working up to Elite/A class mountain marathons will get you familiar with kit/routine/nav/weather/hill work. Ultras certainly so as to know your fuelling, endurance and pacing and lots of hill work in training for core/strength in legs/lungs. I'd recommend working towards having a bash at things like the GL3D event A/B class (run by the same folk), some trail 50 milers (Hardmoors in your neck of the woods?) & as mentioned JC Challenge or Ring o Fire and take it from there. I'd also rec'd Joe Faulkner's wee courses for some insight - he's done all of the DBs....
Well done on Comrades - I saw a guy at an event wearing a Comrades T and asked if he'd done an up or down year, he looked at me and said he'd done 11 of them! 'nuff said...
hehe thanks andy thumbup 2 Comrades was enough for me - no green number here smile

i will work towards that then over the next few years - glad to hear you think i have youth on my side biggrin

all the best for yours!

Oh the Spine - I really hate the cold but yes, of course, it's on the radar; hats off to the chap that did it this year then turned around and walked back to the start, as if things weren't hard enough!
The Ring looks really good - over ten years or so I've racked up a few multi-day runs - MdS a few times, Madagascar, Atacama - but the hardest seem to be the UK ones - my only DNF was in a Scottish multi-day and likewise, setting off too hard was the problem! For clarity, I'm definitely a mid-pack plodder than a racing snake!
I definitely need to up my game smile

Random one for you: anyone ever gone running in a cycling bib? Not a triathlon style one, a normal cycling one. Have got a short run followed by a bike ride planned and it would be preferable not to have to change but not sure if the padding creates an issue running.

Did a brick session once and wanted to avoid sore butt so wore normal cycle bib and then ran after. It was mildly annoying but not hugely restrictive. I only ran for 10 mins though. Much longer than that and I think it would have serious started to get on my tits.

Hill rep session planned so probably best avoided then. Not often people around so I'll just have to take my chances getting changed quickly.
Cheers.

I'm surprised that the International megastar wasn't mobbed by fans when off course ..

Booked into the 2017 Dragon's Back. Should be, er, interesting...
Serious respect for that. I went to a talk by Tobias Mews last night, and he reckoned it was actually one of his most enjoyable races. As a journalist who was there to write about it he really needed to finish so took himself out of race mode, took his time, and just enjoyed it. Tough race though, his mate who'd won the Mont Blanc didn't finish..

Another speaker was a photographer, James Carnegie, who'd also run it and photographed it, stunning scenery for a run.

Yeah imagine hills would be horrid in a bib. Most people wont mind a quick flash of cock when you get changed :-)

Jez Bragg is on it again next year, last time I think he had just done a Ramsey round record (plus UTMB winner as you say) so can be forgiven I think! These guys are so far ahead they are on another planet to yours truly, unbelievable watching them go.

And yes, she is now under investigation by the VLM organisers...................
Bit of a bump but apparently she had a 'panic attack' and became confused.

What utter bullst.
This kind of st really grinds my gears. Assume she got one of these "celebrity" spots, fk knows why as she is the sister of a no one, and does this. Meanwhile thousands and thousands of people don't get the chance to run. Waste of an entry slot.

I don't know why London persist with the celeb entries. Its not like they need the attention, its one of (if not the) biggest and most popular marathons in the world and has live coverage on the BBC.

Rant over, as you were.

It must be impossible to go off course in the London Marathon. Just how do you "go wrong".

You dont. Its barriered all the way round with marshals at regular intervals and crowds pretty much all the way round.

Its almost like they do that to stop people taking a short cut.

She is just full of st and spouting this sort of bullst just makes her look worse. She should have said sorry and kept her mouth shut rather than thinking up this bks.

The problem is that her 'fans' lap it up and think she is telling the truth. Idiots the lot of them.

Following on from that, a question from me as a non-swimmer non-cyclist, is there padding in a Tri Suit, if not I sit uncomfortable cycling?

Tri suits have a much smaller pad. It is meant to provide some comfort and not get in the way when running. Also being smaller is should dry quicker.

I am slightly worried about the half ironman I have coming up. Get a sore arse doing 70KM in full on bib shorts. 92Km in a tri suit is going to hurt.

Might be worth throwing some bibs on over the top. Will only lose a few seconds in transition and will be much more comfortable

Raby castle 10k for me today, lovely day for it and great course, hilly, but a nice mix.

Happy with 42:47 today, couldn't have gone any faster today.

I think it depends on how weathered your arse is.
Personally, I'd be happy doing an IM distance in a good quality tri-suit with minimal pad.

But if you think you will be uncomfortable, then I would maybe swim with a pair of lycra running shorts under the wetsuit, then add bibs for the cycle and remove them for the run.

Anyone suffer from pins and needles when running?

Hook 10k yesterday and I was a bit quicker than the Frimley 10k a couple of weeks ago, despite having to stop 3 times to try and shake the pins and needles out of my left foot. Felt like I was wearing a griddle pan rather than a trainer. Any suggestions on cause and ways to avoid it?

Started with my trainer fairly loose as I had the same problem on a club run last week and thought I might have had it laced too tight, I stopped and did it up tighter but that didn't help either. I've had it before but not recently, but then again I've not been running much further than 5km over the winter. Always the left foot too.

Particularly annoying as I ended up finishing 3 seconds behind the wife biggrin Although that did mean I had a good target to try and run down on the last km.

Re pins & needles: Your trainers might either have worn out cushioning in the wrong places, or perhaps they're just the wrong shape for your foot and therefore putting pressure on a nerve.
I had a few weeks in March where I experienced it between two of my toes in the forefoot area. I bought new running shoes and it went away on the next run.
