Internet physio advice anyone?

I've been developing a niggle that's on the point of becoming painful and I can't get a physio appointment before a big run I've got coming up. I'm feeling it on the outside/back of my knee running upwards in a kind of hollow groove (that groove is really obvious if you're sitting with crossed legs.) Hopefully that description isn't too vague. Ring any bells with anyone? I've got a training run coming up to test out strapping it up if I've got some idea of what it is.

Did my first full run back today. I've been doing some couch to 5k runs with my girlfriend but today went out and did close to 5 miles at 7 minute pace. Not too bad after more than a month out but I'd rather be more comfortable than I was at that pace.

Also seemed to have caught the sun today from 30 mins out in it!

Training going quite well with a long run each week of 21.1k. Plan is to quicken up at an easy pace which seems to be working.

The positive or negative impact seems to be around what to eat as I am running a calorie deficit. What do you guys eat more of? Bigger portions of normal meals or specific pre training food?

KFC is calling but sure I can do better......

Deft need new shoes. Right foot went numb again today around the 6k mark. Came back around the 8k mark as I was finishing up on the last hill before home. Only seems to happen on the flat.

Question, anyone know Up & Running' in Shrewsbury. It seems to be my closest running shop and I've never had any gait analysis done.

It was fab, I can see the attraction. Was a hot night for my first one (and it turned out to be 11km). Was a real scramble on the climb up and I think I realised I need to train a lot more on downhill sections. I'll be back though definately

New 10k PB this morning of 38:45 for a 31 second improvement, and a 1 minute 17 second improvement on my course best. Convinced I can go faster on a course that doesn't feature 2x not insignificant climbs and 2x switchbacks.

Held it steady in the first lap and then went hell for leather in the second lap, producing a sub-19 5k in the process...

You might. You might not, it could be the lacing pattern you're using.

Good going, I'm doing a very flat 10k soon, at croft racing circuit, 3 laps. I'm hoping to knock a chunk off my 10k pb of 42:14

Been training for a half ironman, everything was fine except after this weeks run (10k) my left knee now clicks when I walk up the stairs. No pain (mild discomfort in the muscles but this is doms I think). If I put my hand over my knee cap and squat I can feel something move at the same time as the click. Is this the tendon snapping over the bone?

Should I do anything? Is it worth trying to get into a private physio this week and have it checked?

Longer term should I be doing stuff to strengthen certain muscles or increase flexibility?

Great result, well done!

I'll go for the sub-40 again at some point this year... but can't train at the moment as I've got stitches in my leg from a self-inflicted brain-fade bicycle incident last week hehe

Maybe - I've tried various patterns and lacing tightness, it's only happened in the last two months and these are 6 year old cross trainers. I'm guessing that age and starting to put some miles on them is highlighting any deficiencies. I also found out that they're neutral shoes and I need more support as I overpronate a bit.

So, on that note I went to 'Up & Running' they did the gait analysis (overpronate a bit) and they wheeled out 4 pairs. Brooks, Mizuno, Asics & Saucony. Tried them all on, however, the Mizunos immediately felt the best for my foot so that's what I went for.

Mizuno Wave Inspire 12s.

I shall go for a run in a bit and see how I get on.

Edit: Back from the run - Just over 8km at my usual ploddy pace - No numbness at all, not even a tingle. Also, usually during a run I get a tightness in my right calf at some point. It varies in duration and intensity and it doesn't matter how rested or stretched etc... This time, nothing! Very happy about that. They felt comfy and good. Nothing special but nothing bad either, just fine, which is great - the forefoot area is comfier and more padded than my previous pair which I like. They are warmer though. That I did notice. The upper mesh is obviously not as thin/open as my previous shoes.

Looking forward to putting more miles on them.

A shameless plug for runningheroes.com but I won another one their competitions today (previously a t-shirt and an entry to the Lucerne marathon) so I now have one of these heading my way soon smile

Gearing up for the largest 10k in the world on Monday in Atlanta (The Peachtree 10K) and training has been a little sporadic, but given it is 23C at 7am in the morning and has been 35C at 7pm at night, it's been a touch tricky. Last year a Brit Scott Overall pipped an American on the line to win the race which was some irony given it's an independence day race smile Hoping that the temperature lowers a little and a drop of rain might help. There is a dirty hill from 3-4.5 miles so looking forward to "hills, heat and humidity"

What time's the race? I remember racing in Florida at 7am to avoid the heat. Good luck!

It's the European Mountain Running Championships this weekend in Arco, Italy. The GB team is strong and I'd hope everyone comes home with a medal of some colour. As usual the Italians will be tough to beat, especially on home trails. Good to see a couple of mates in the team flying the flag for the older athletes hehe as well as a fellow TeamBath athlete and a junior from my first club, Lancaster and Morecambe AC.

I remember that win for Scott Overall - a premature celebration from the eventual second placer if I recall. Molly Huddle went on to do the same later in the summer only for a team mate to squeeze past her for the line at the last moment.

Best of luck with the race. I went for a couple of runs in Thailand last summer first thing in the morning and it was 30 odd degrees even then. Never again do I want to experience such humidity whilst running!

Race starts at 7am for me, but there are multiple waves with the last starting at 9am when it will be 28C and these people are the slower ones so will take up to 2 hours and by then it will be 30C.
Looking forward to the race but I'm told that times are usually a bit down due to Hills, heat and humidity. I ran a 10k at that time a few weeks ago and it was ok but it had rained that week, whereas it has not rained in 3 weeks now and it's oppressive. Fun times smile

Some good efforts on here. Loved the sound of the 67 miler in 17 hours. That is a decent effort.

Building up to Farnham Marathin in early September, feel a little undertrained, but still have time to sort it out.

12 miles this morning and proper hilly, just around two hours. Bit slower than I'd really like. I have a flat half time of 1:53.

Feels good to get some miles in..
