Stiff ankles.

2 weeks ago i ran the cost path down in cornwall , being a idiot i rolled my ankle twice within a couple of miles.

It doesn't hurt but is more of a stiff feeling and it clicks , any ideas what i've done.

I can still run did two 10ks in the week on road and 10 miles today off road however i have to be really cautious downhill when there's camber.

On the subject of endurance events, I didn't do much apart from run, shuffle and walk on Saturday:

Saw that on Strava - makes my miserly 100km Race to the Stones look short. Awesome effort.

Did you have to run along the seawall? Killed my knees when I ran there.

Thanks!

27 laps including the full length of the sea wall (out and back, so just the 54 times). The gentle hills on the rest of the course were actually very welcome to break things up. It was a lovely day too - not ideal for running though!!!

Their medals are amazing - look up Saxon Shore events

The medal looks like another one of Running Imps creations. Saxon Shore have used them in the past: http://www.runningimp.co.uk/news/dunkirkandbattleo...

Great Newham Run on Sun - 10k.

Summary VERY HOT!

Good to finish in the Olympic Stadium, enjoyed that 300m but can't say I enjoyed the first 9700.

I was gradually working my way forward in the start pen until I got near people who looked like they might be somewhere near my pace, when I got about 5m from the front I passed Rupert the ******* Bear and decided the only option was to be right at the front so managed to get there and was in P5 for the first k until a slight trickle of people started coming past.

Then at 2k I caught the back of the previous wave, who set off 10 mins before us.

I guess it's a good run but certainly not a good race!

4 mins off PB due to the heat, weaving past slow people for 8k and not having anyone to hang on to/ be paced by as it was impossible to work out who was in which wave.

Sounds like my 10k at Durham last night, parked at park and ride at 6:20, due to numbers ended up arriving at the start line at 7:14 (race start 7:15) could only join literally at the very back. Bearing in mind there was a 5k and 10k starting at the same time from the same start and over 2,000 running that wasn't good news.

First 5k was a nightmare as its narrow in places, so constantly weaving in and out overtaking people, it was a hilly two lap route too so not a pb course.

In the end was pleasantly surprised to finish 234th out of the 1,200 in the 10k, I must have passed somewhere like 800 people and a chunk of the 5kers too. 47:07 some 5 mins off my best 10k

Mine are custom made and have no brand or marking on them. I found problems int he arch when they were in support shoes. They gave me a blister. Now they are in a neutral shoe they are fine.

I used to use custom orthotics now i use sole obsession insoles where you heat them up on stand on them to mould them.

I can't tell any difference between them i'm not picking up any more injuries with the cheaper ones.

what recommendations do people have for waterproof jacket and pants that would pass a normal trail inspection ie tapped seams etc...
I've got a Montane Minimus (230g) for running with, a decent jacket if a bit rustly. But it's for double duty (hill walking) and is brilliant at keeping the elements out.
The missus has an OMM Aeon jacket (182g for a medium mens) and she rates it, it hasn't had any 'big' days out yet but has kept her dry in training and the material is less noisy than Pertex Shield.

I'd be looking at the Berghaus Vapourlight Hyper jacket or smock though. I know a couple of runners that really rate theirs and it is ridiculously light (74g.)

Overtrousers wise I'm guessing it's just to tick the boxes rather than actual use? If so Decathlon do the Raincut overtrousers which are about £9 and around 200g if you want something cheap.

As this is the running thread ill pose a question.

I run on average in 43 degree heat. I'm doing 8min 10 sec miles according to my Runkeeper. I run every other day and alternate on those days 3 and 4 mile duration.

Is my timing good bear in mind Im 45 so no whipper snapper.

I would say that's a bloody good effort. I find 8min miles 'tough' for an hour and I am a lot younger. However, experienced runners can do this no problem. The heat you're running in is crazy that's got to add so much more difficulty.

I seem to be forever chasing those in their forties and fifties, I wouldn't let age cloud your opinion too much.

It's not a bad pace at all, perfectly respectable given the heat.

If you want to get faster then incorporating sessions such as intervals/fartlek/hill reps and tempo runs - along with the odd long run - would be the way to go (if you're just 'running' every other day.) If you're happy with where you are though then crack on, your pace is reasonable and running as regularly as you are I'm sure will keep you in shape.

Cheers, im a bit restricted on the hills as i run on a airfield. Running alongside the runway area i get some breeze but then on the return journey (route is kind of dictated) im running down a "corridor" of 5m high concrete walls which acerbates the heat. Im happy with how im going so ill keep at it.

Try splitting the corridor into quarters and sprint a quarter, take it easy a quarter and repeat or sprint the whole length and jog slowly back.

I'm guessing your not serving with the services as they'd have pt instructors there , are you private security?

Im ex forces....running more now than i did serving.
I work for NATO....ill leave it at that.
The good thing is the US Army guys i usually run into when i sometimes go out morning and i can usually catch up and overtake. I wear my old Regt tshirts which does confuse them as there are no UK mil here.
