Years ago, before the first three or four holes along the cliff finally succumbed to coastal erosion and were taken out of service.

I certainly enjoyed it back in those days - not had the chance to play it in its new configuration.

Dim and distant, but I do seem to recall being told that one of the loops had a more inland feel to it. Personally (and coming from a predominantly parkland course), I'd be wanting to play the 'linksier' of the two loops, if that was possible.

No comments on Muirfield? They really are looking like a bunch of out of touch codgers.
Not sure I understand the comments from Peter Alliss

Think his point was that currently the wives of members ger to play and use the clubhouse for free, whereas if they accepted women members they would have to start paying for it - so he suspects many members were encouraged by their wives to vote against it so they didn't have to pay for membership.

Similar thing happened in our club a few years ago when the ladies section were given the same level of membership as the men, they all started kicking off as their fees went up - so they ended up with two tiers of ladies membership to keep everyone happy...

It's a bit old fashioned but at the end of the day it's a private members club, so it's their shout who they let in. Also think it's a bit rich the R n A getting on their high horse after admitting their first female member...last year...

Thought I'd jump in on the is thread as I'm just starting to get back into golf.

I've always played since age 8 ish having been bought some lessons by my grandfather and got down to an 11 handicap by around 20yo. I've played very little in the past 16 years or so (36 now) but have just got back from a weekends golf in the Algarve and have the bug again.

Played at Bonnyton GC last Friday with a mate who's a member and did OK. I'm probably playing off about 18 or so at the moment so need some more practice. My driving is off a bit so went down to the range this morning and hit 100 balls. I don't struggle with distance but seem to have developed an ugly pull shot. I'm thinking some lessons might be the next step to iron out some issues and bad habits.

Anyway, I'm now very excited as I'm due to play Kingsbarns in a few months and want to have a decent round! Can't wait! Anyone played it?

I dream of being an 11 hcap ever. I played a semi serious stableford with 3 friends yesterday and found out that may self-proclaimed 18 hcap was seriously optimistic and next time out it will have to start with a 2 to be competitive.

Just keep at it. If your serious about wanting to get better, have lessons. If you just like a knock with friends every few months don't expect earth shattering results.

Being back off 4 was short lived. Played well during the week and todays round was the opposite. Solid start but still walked off with a bogey on the first and scratching my head, not sure I was fully concentrating on my tee shot on the 2nd. A Low pull ensued (was trying to play a stinger off the tee right into the teeth of the wind). Result was a double bogey. meh. Never really got going after that and my mind was gone by the 14th so I NR'd to end the torture. Back up to 5 for tomorrow. Bugger....

34 pts today in the wet. Shot of the round was 90mtr wedge drawn around a big tree to land 6ft from the pin.

Well we play Barton on Sea on Saturday afternoon, so howling a gale and raining cats and dogs, they had actually cancelled their competition for the day, obviously we didn't realise how bad the weather was going to be

Managed just 23 points playing off 8, so pretty disappointing, we just wanted to get off the course as quickly as possible, not great conditions to play a course on the coast line in, and for £70 seem a bit expensive

Back to normal next week

Had a 30 a side match against the parent club yesterday. Great day. Course is in stunning condition. Played foursomes and won our match 5&4. We beat the parent club 9-6.

Fantastic lunch afterwards and ended up pretty much stfaced! Happy days!

Not had a chance to play recently, given the house renovation, however, I've got Friday booked off work to head to Wentworth - If I can't play I might as well watch people that can!

Very jealous! Looks to be good weather for the occasion too.

Cabrera-Bello will be up there i'd think and at 25/1 looks to be a nice little wager. Kaymer also is a good bet, he's been talking the tournament up and knows he has to put in a good performance to keep his hopes of a Ryder Cup spot alive - he's 22/1.

Money where my mouth is -

Winning score was highest score was 53 and the team score was 103. The team of 4 all played with there HD over 20 and scored 45-44-50-53. Don't think ill waste my money next year as the food was crap too.

Looks very nice.
Don't hit driver off the first. Its too much club. Long iron or hybrid at most and don't try and cut the dogleg on the 8th, you won't make it and just loose your ball.
Its a nice course, been a while since I last played it. They've spent ALOT of money on it recently so hopefully it'll be in good order
What a lovely course.

Really interesting right round the full 18. Not too long, but very challenging.

That's my excuse anyway for coming back in with a miserable 21 points. Awful.

But the course was in great condition - greens were comparable with those we played in Portugal a fortnight ago.

Club house is lovely too.

The framed scorecard with a score of 59 was a nice bit of encouragement too!

Recommended. and only £20 for after 1pm tee.

I can understand when a high handicapper has a good day they'll hit a good score. I was +6 through 9 at my club once and I play off 24 - although I was +16 on the back 9! But, a whole team scoring 45, 44, 50 and 53 ruins the day a bit...

Very true.

I just played my own game and didn't worry about who i was with or the score overall as i hadn't played it before. when i do go back it may be different as there is a few holes where i took a 3 wood off where i would be tempted to drive it. Thats where my score will come down drastically when ever i think too much about the shot or course.

Its a nice course starts off with a par 3 playing 202yds but in the wind it was playing 230-240 yards
