There are still plenty of players who look like they are enjoying the game but you're right, on the most part they're pretty miserable looking when playing.

Still great to watch though.

That's the power of professionalism in the money sports. Spoils it for everyone.

Can't remember the last time I saw anyone playing for a million through the fog of a hangover. Footballers are the worst for it. You used to see a hungover player throwing-up on the sidelines quite regularly. Great fun. Shame.

I saw Sheffield Wednesday play a few season ago and Francis Jeffers was throwing up in the centre circle - his reputation at the time, i'm not sure it was food poisoning.... hehe

That's real sport.

I've often thought there's a market for drunksports. Take the normal talented players and at the start-line / whistle / first tee / whatever, everyone has to drink a body-weight-linked amount of Stella. Then the game begins.

Possible mid-game top-ups / penalties / handicaps / forfeits at the referee's mischievous discretion. These could also be provoked by spectator voting - the real purpose of smartphones.

Who wouldn't want to watch a wobbly but basically with-it Lee Westwood tee it up after 8 pints, to take-on a totally slaughtered 5-pintered Spieth?

Commentators have to be on mushrooms.

If this was a thing in Golf my money would be on John Daly. I still remember him getting disqualified from a tourney in the US after turning up after a bottle of vodka. I think his thoughts were he should have won the thing for shooting a 78 in that state smile

Great to see Tiger back tonight though, I consider myself a big big fan. I still remember his performance in the 97 Masters, at level that no one had ever seen before. In his prime he was absolutely untouchable, and I'd agree that none of the current crop would get near him consistently.

Not a bad night of telly tonight if I'm honest - Tiger's return on Sky Sports 4, then new TGT at 11/12 ish. Tomorrow morning may be challenging smile

Funny you should moot hat format.

My dad in his day was a great player (Scottish Boys Champion no less, and was offered the asst. pro slot at Gleneagles which his dad denied him. Still rankles with him that one............) playing of very low single figures. He worked in the papers, so he and a bunch of colleagues had what they called Friday golf. Handicaps varied from my dads 1 to 21, however the handicap system used was both unique and ingenious. All playing off bare feet, a kind of stableford with nips was played, whereby bottle of whisky were taken out on the course, and the scoring system was 1 nip for a bogey, 2 for a par, 3 for a birdie etc.........

Legend has it that a 7 up after 7 lead was converted into a 2 and 1 defeat!!!!!!

Going to the 18th 1 under, some poor putts (way long), one very poor short chip (way long) but otherwise a very tidy round............
Oh bugger, he's just found the water off of the 18th tee

Great to see him back though

like him or not he has just shot a 65 and I think that is immense. I could never understand how someone so talented was so frustrated with himself. I would love to see him back to his best it would be one of the best sporting comebacks of all time

Well...... for the first time in 4 years got a handicap cut. Chuffed doesn't cover it, played really well following on from my 74 at Geleneagles. 78 in the medal at my home course ( Crail, Balcomie white tees) then followed that up by shooting 76 today in a bounce game. If Carlsberg made weekends.........

Thank you sir. A change from the endless succession of +0.1 interspersed with the odd token buffer zone...... Hopefully it can continue :-)

I'm considering a top of the bag rebuild!

I just can't get on with my driver anymore, but I'm pretty consistent with my 3 wood. So I'm considering:

Ditching the driver
Replacing current 3 wood with the Ping Stretch 3 (13 degree, adjustable up and down by 1 degree)
Getting a new G hybrid 3, and replacing 4 and 5 irons with G hybrids.

The G Stretch will effectively be my driver - I don't use it off the deck. I'm so much better at hitting my 3 hybrid than my 4 iron so I thought I'd get a 4 and 5 hybrid.

New equipment won't fix your game, it almost never does but YOU can fix your game.

Shiny things don't make things better, applying yourself does smile

I don't necessarily agree with that, actually!

I hit my 3 wood well - so I want to use it more.

I struggle with my long irons, but hit my hybrid well. So I'm going to swap them. That's all.

I'll still have my driver and long irons, so if I fancy putting them back in I will.

But time is scarce at the moment - spending hours on the range doing drills just isn't possible for me right now. My Sunday morning golf is precious to me, so if a few club changes make it easier and more enjoyable for me for the time being then I think it's worth it.

I haven't bought any new equipment for 2 years so I'm not a prolific equipment we!

Next year is going to be tricky for me - starting a very large house extension/renovation, 2 young kids and I'm Captain! Spare time is going to be minimal.

Plus, it's nice sometimes to buy new shiny things biggrin

Cheddar is right overall, I'm sure you know that.

However, what you've described actually makes sense, and will hopefully improve your scores, not to mention make you happy over Xmas!

Sounds like a good move smile

On a more general note regarding equipment, anyone old enough to remember wooden woods, and the first small metals, hardly anyone from say 15hc up, would use a driver, because they simply would score. The idea of everyone using a driver, is a relatively new concept, pushed by companies like Taylormade.

Adjustable clubs should be banned, IMO.

We're allowed 14 clubs in the bag. If you can tune them longer/shorter/higher/lower/fade/draw, it makes a bit of a mockery of the limit.

Crafting a shot from the restricted tools at our disposal is a good part of the game, it shouldn't be side-steppable.
