I'm pretty lucky - I don't think my wife would have any idea what clubs I have (although I am keeping the new grips firmly in the bag at home at the moment!!)
Was there any interest in a PH golf day? Think Merp mentioned it a page or so ago?

I always think - if Tour professionals aren't using them, why should any club golfers?!
Spieth has AP2's from 4-PW, with a 712U 3 iron.
My thought process is "why make hitting the ball harder, just so I can use a club that looks nicer?"
I can see where you're coming from, but I honestly see no reason other than aesthetics as to why anyone at club level should play a full set of MB's.
Wedges and short irons, maybe.
I know what you mean & I'm a massive tart which is part of the reason for wanting them! But then, I'm also of the thought process of...if they are hard to hit, then I'll have to improve me/my swing to use them. That's what I did with my current set. I tried some blades (mizuno/taylormade etc.) & decided I was a long way from using those so settled on the FG Tour irons from Wilsons which are somewhere in-between game improvements and 'player' irons they're forged a feel great... It's taken me 3/4 years since buying them but I've gone from a 23 handicap to a 12 (albeit it with 3 lessons chucked in to help along the way). Spieth has AP2's from 4-PW, with a 712U 3 iron.

I reckon most people who play to a low teen handicap that have aspirations to play to single figures (like me and you for example) could use them without having a detrimental effect to their handicap (after a bit of practice that is).
I dare say the reason Speith is using AP2s is that it's what Titleist want him to use. But that's just me being an absolute cynic!
True fact coming up, majority of pros still use blades, in particular, the players who aren't sponsored, so buy purely on choice, use blades.
Blades are more accurate for dispersion, proven by tests on Iron Byron.
There are more reasons to but blades than not, do it and you won't regret it

I have Ap2 712's and have just bought a 2nd hand set off a mate of AP2 714's, they are more forgiving. His replacement is the new Tileist MB 716's from 6 to PW and he loves them and god they look nice! I had a go with them a nearly holed the shot! He is off 4, but funnily the local pro used AP2's
I would like a set of blades but I am not consistent enough to always make a good strike!

When my original multi compound grips lost their, errr, grip I thought I'd try a few different types to see the differences so I bought 3 types.
1. Golf Pride multi compound mid sized, £12 each
2. Cleveland mid sized single compound synthetic rubber £10 each
3. Euro Crossline oversized synthetic rubber £4 each
The Golf Pride replaced my original 'Williams' branded grips (which were really Golf Pride under a different name), they had the poorest 'grip', the least feel and were very hard.
The Cleveland's had much more grip and were more comfortable, I'd be happy with these if I hadn't tried the Euro's
The Euro oversized? Wow! Nothing I've ever purchased has made such a difference to my game. I'd never considered oversized grips but a friend suggested trying some for more 'control' (I've got an average male hand size), the grip/stickiness is the best of the three, the 'feel' is SO much better and the bigger sizing gives me much more confidence, especially with my driver
I used all three grips at the same time, just split my clubs into 3rds with the Golf Pride on 60deg/50 deg/7 iron/4 hybrid, the Cleveland on 56deg/PW/8 iron/5 iron/3 hybrid and the Euro on SW/9iron/6iron/3 wood and Driver. I fell for the Euro grips so much that I'd sometimes choose the wrong club just because it had the fatter grip on it.
A couple of the lower handicap players (playing off of 3 and 4) at my club tried the grips and have now switched to oversized ones themselves.
If you're thinking of changing grips and you get a chance to try some big ones give it a go, I think you might be pleased
Can you send me a link to these grips please Cheddar? 1. Golf Pride multi compound mid sized, £12 each

I was wondering why i couldn't find them in the UK.
They look fairly similar to the Lamkin Crossline which are available in Mid and oversize. I may buy a couple to try as i like the crossline grips but have only tried with a normal grip with a couple of extra wraps before.
If it's possible to fall in love with a lump of metal then I did yesterday in the shape of the callaway apex mb irons. I've been waiting to see these in the flesh for a while as well as the mizuno mp25 as I've narrowed it down to these two which I'm going to buy. The callaways were by far and away the better looking club in every way possible, and I'm a big mizuno fan! Only problem was they were both right handed and I'm a lefty so couldn't try them

Those Apex irons do look lovely. Hadn't even seen them before you posted them up.
Rather stupidly played in that wind yesterday. 45mph gusts were pretty much the norm for the whole round. Putting was interesting to say the least. Managed to get round with 26 points in what was easily the toughest conditions I've ever played in. If it blows like that again, I'm staying in with my feet up! One huge positive, the course was basically empty and we got round in about 3 hours 45 (3 ball).

He got the titleist T-MB from 2-4 and I think a CB for a 5 iron, not a cheap set of clubs, but he hits them really well and finds the blades easy to hit.
He's dumped his rescues, after hitting the 714's i'm considering putting the 4 iron back in the bag

That's the key - consistency. No way I'm a consistent enough ball striker to use blades. They also effing hurt when you hit a duff one
I can also see his logic in only going up to a 6 iron with them (does he have the new AP2's for his 4 and 5 iron?).

Have you seen the Srixon blades!
Also PXG irons have been brought to my attention, its a good read about the guy who founded the company. £5k for a set of irons though is a high for me, ill stick to my 2nd hand AP2's, if there good enough for Spieth there good enough for me!

I was +12 through 8 holes!
Finished +17 gross for 27 points. Tough going.
