for anyone interested, following the sad demise of adams, there is some bargains to be had here!

,played Monte Rei today. What a great experience. When you score 20 Points but still absolutely enjoyed the day you know how good the course is. It is a bit out in the boonies but If you are in the Faro area it is really well worth the effort
Finished off a great week with a round at Vilamoura Old Course. Umbrella pines were the end of my game, couldn't get over them, couldn't get under them and as you have probably guessed I was not down the middle of the fairway.

Played 18 in the wind and rain yesterday and managed an 84 for 35 points on a course I hadn't played before, which was pretty satisfying. It could have been a lot better though, as annoyingly got up in two on the one of the par 5's and managed to 3 putt! Did chip in on one of the holes and almost did it again a few holes later which was encouraging! Can't wait for Exeter in 2 weeks!!

Hello all. I've not posted much on here the last few years due to the arrival of our daughter.
It's quite amusing to see the trend graph for my handicap from her birth goes from 3.7 to my current 5.0!!
Now she's 3 1/2 and I've no longer got to work weekends it's time to get back into golf properly. Aim for this year is to at least get back down to 4. It's going to be difficult as I've had a belly putter for around 8 or 9 years which I can no longer use the way I used to frown Gone for a Scotty Futura X now.
Will try and update my progress or lack of!! First qualifier of the year this Saturday. Bogey format so eases me in before any medal competitions.

Love this time of year for golf. Got out early this morning for my a lesson on chipping following last weeks coaching on the irons.

In the very frustrating stage of a swing change where everything gets a LOT worse before it gets better.

Is it worth getting a lesson on putting or is that something that I would get a feel for by just practicing?

This mornings course photo -

^^^ Great pic, I really fancy getting out there today.

What's the score with powered trolleys? Are they just for the old and infirm? wink

I am getting quite tempted to treat myself. Any recommendations?

I always carry. It makes the round feel a bit more exhaustive and like worthwhile exercise. Someone told me that it burns circa 1500 calories per round! Enough for a club sandwich and a few pints on the 19th.

Failing that, pull/push a trolley!

I've always carried too and I could do with the exercise. The only time I don't is when in Portugal with the society as we all have buggies. Maybe best to wait until I'm a little older and more infirm. smile

I used to carry, but I think it's detrimental to your game. The closer you get to the 18th green, the more knackered you are!

However, unless you play a really hilly course, I think powered trolleys are for the older generation.

I use a Sun Mountain V1 push trolley and it is superb. Effortless to push and the large wheels are superb at going over/through rough. Avoid trolleys with small wheels.

Also, powered trolleys are heavy and you always have to make sure your battery is charged and that you haven't left it at home..... hehe

Golf used to keep me trim(mer) when I carried. I've definitely put on weight since I switched to a trolley.

For the cost vs the effort of pushing a trolley along, I'd find it difficult to justify a power trolley.

Of course, if you want absolute minimum fatigue on the course to maximize scoring potential then maybe it's worth it, but it's not exactly strenuous to push.

Vaughan Taylor won on the PGA tour a few months back carrying his own bag.

Always carried here too, and never really had an issue with fatigue despite the many Marlboros that get smoked on a typical round - in fact the only time I can remember fatigue really being an issue was with a buggy - 2 weekends ago in Devon on the Sunday, but then we had played 7 games in 4 days which may be a factor smile

Always carried, but moved over to an Electric trolley about 3 months ago. Best thing I've ever done, I really do believe my recent form has been down to feeling fresher due to not carrying.
I play a lot of golf (130+ rounds a year) so I get my fair share of walking. It will pay for itself come the heat of summer, nothing worse than carrying when its 20+ degrees.

Absolutely cracking weather here this week! Can't wait until the weekend - we have an away match at Royal St George's so should be good.

Well finished my first comp of the year! Bogey format and I finished level. Was a bit up and down throughout which was to be expected. As usual the frustration with bogey format is if you do better than par on a shot hole it's still only a + on the card, I managed an eagle and a birdie on two of my shot holes!! So reality was I scored 39 points stableford doh!!!
Pretty happy anyway as it was far better than I expected.

Agreed, not my favourite format, it encourages players to pick up as soon as they've reached a minus, we played it yesterday but combined it with stableford, that way you play a full round and get to see the winners taking the prizes with 47 points!!!!!!

When did the rules change so you can now have the flag tended when you're off the green? Just watching the PGA and have done for many years. For some reason I've never really noticed before! smile

Been like that for as long as I can remember if I'm honest. Wouldn't know if/when it has been changed?

You can have it removed, tended or held up from anywhere on the course.
