For anyone looking for a place to play in Fife that doesn't break the bank I can strongly recommend Drumoig

Is that the place not too far from the Tay Bridge with the indoor practice centre? If so, cracking place, spent many a happy hour there when I was at university.

Also loved playing Scotscraig when I got the chance, fantastic golf course, and still one of my favourites after all these years.

Going to play Honinton (twice) and East Devon from Thursday-Saturday this week. Hoping the weather stays dry! Can't wait to play East Devon, looks a great track. Kicking it off a day early and playing a par 3 comp tomorrow with my buddies. Have just applied for masters tickets too, just won't tell SWMBO yet hehe

does any one have experience of golfbidder and their condition assessment? is it usually over or under expectation? as in when they say its 7/10 did you receive them and think the clubs were in fact better or worse than expected for 7/10. cheers.

I would be wary and ask for more pictures of what you are interested in.

I sold a a set of Mizuno clubs on there and in fairness they gave me a good price. But I told them about every mark on the clubs and sent pictures before I agreed to sell them.
They gave me their price based on these pictures and I accepted.

However - when I viewed my old clubs on their website, I noticed that they had carefully placed stickers/labels over the main scuffs/scrapes of the clubs (mainly on the soles).

So, if you are looking and there seems to be a big bar code sticker on the sole of a club, it's probably masking a big scuff or scratch!

Golf is a stupid game.
I had a mare on Sunday, nothing apart from my driver was working.
A miserable 17 points chalked.
Had to make a decision, either give it a rest for a few weeks or go down the range to see if I could sort things out.
So went to the range and every single shot I played with every club flew out of the sweet spot and trvelled miles dead straight. Even tried dialling in a bit of draw and bit of fade. I got exactly what it said on the can.
Even on the putting area, every thing was either in or a gimme.

sounds like your issue is between the ears then....take the pressure off yourself on the course...rumour has it, it's meant to be a fun hobby wink

Thanks Kentlad, you sound like my Mrs. She suggested I book a tee time just after my mates and play on my own so no direct competition.
Back to the Dr Bob book to sort out my head.

Forget Dr Bob. Just remember why you took the game up! I'd avoid comps for a few weeks and just get back to playing with mates until you rediscover some form on the course. It really is a lot more enjoyable when you can laugh at each other knowing it won't be taken the wrong way. Surprisingly, the most enjoyable rounds I've had have been shooting over handicap whilst laughing at my mates being in the same boat...

Firstly well done clap

Secondly, practice, practice, practice + a few more lessons and you'll do it

I'm a 24 handicapper so take my advice with a pinch of salt. But, if you want to get to an acceptable level quite quickly i'd play each hole like it's +1 over par.

So, if you come up to a par 4, play it like it's a par 5. 3 shorter shots on to the green and 2 putts. Obviously if you feel confident go for the green in regulation. But, i found that by aiming to finish the hole +1 rather than aiming for a par I quickly scored a lot lower.

Only problem is you'll never be better than an 18 handicap with that approach!!!
Thanks for the encouragement, guys.

I dropped my wife off in Brighton yesterday to shop and I went to a 'pitch and put' course in Roedean.

I've played there in the past, before being coached, and my new problem is overhitting. I'd taken a 7 iron and a 3, plus putter. On the first hole I hit a convenient wall about 3/4 of the distance of the hole beyond it. It bounced back but at an angle.

On two holes of the 16 I hit the flag pole, although once before bouncing, so direction is coming on well.

So I ended up using the 7-iron off a tee. Shame there are no marks for elevation. Mind you it stopped the ball rolling on too far.

I've got to work on my short game though.

What is remarkable is the difference just three half hour lessons can give. I'll need a few more before I challenge my son-in-law though.

It is also a positive that I have now an excuse to forgo shopping.

Now I'm taking it seriously the enjoyment has improved immensely. The disappointments have reached new depths. The odd thing is that with the third hole, when I hit the flag before the ball bounced, I was really chuffed. That it took me 6 shots to down the ball in no way diminished it. When the ball hit the flag on the third bounce on the 12th hole I had to stop myself jumping.

An average of a bit under 4.8 shots per hole isn't too disappointing given that I overshot the hole on over half the times and once took three shots to get over a raised bit around one hole.

I've been bitten.

Edited to correct getting mixed up with my irons. Also, I topped the ball off the 4th tee. I got a 3, my lowest of the round.

Oooh... keep us posted on the Crossover, interested in those myself.
I had the Ping rapture driving iron, but I struggled to launch it high enough to be of any use.
Went for a fitting to fit a gap at the long end of my bag. 5 wood->3 iron. I'm a low launcher of the ball and couldn't get the bloody hybrids airborne. I expected the same from the Crossover having had the rapture. But amazingly they launch the ball really nicely. I've gone down a flex to stiff to make sure I don't chase distance with it. Cant wait, love my long irons and hopefully this will be a fairway finder on tight holes.
How are you getting on with the Crossover?

Still waiting for it. Should hopefully be here this week. Ping where out of stock of the heads. (if you want off the shelf fitting, you can pick them up from any shop tomorrow, but typically, mine is a custom fit)
I have however, just put a Ping G SF tec 5 wood into the bag. I went for a the heavier Tour 80g shaft which feels lovely and kept the gapping right. No launch issues with this bugger. Its a bit odd to see that much height from the deck with a fairway wood in hand for me.

Will also be bagging the new Ping iBlades when they get launched. My current S55's are starting to show the wear of 2 an a bit seasons of golf and 350+ rounds.

A friend of mine (club pro) is having a Ping week in a fortnight so I'll give it a go and get fitted for one if I like it. I'm a custom fit man as well.

I'm actually considering swapping out both my 3 hybrid and 4 iron for 2 of them..... if I like them!

Just realised that my irons have just hit 12 years old! Bought them on the day of my last exam at uni, didn't expect them to last long at all as I used to change every 12 months - 12 years later I still have no idea what I'd change them for.

Almost quite proud of myself with that!

That is good going! What irons are you playing?
