That is good going! What irons are you playing?
Still using a set of the original Nike Blades - tried them out not expecting to be able to use them properly, after the first pure strike I was hooked. Got myself the 1 and 2 iron to go with them, 2 iron is easy enough to hit, the 1 iron you need to be swinging well, but worth the effort.

Only issue I've found is they are at least a club weaker than most other irons, so where normally it would be a 7 iron, I need to go up to a 6. Looking into it the lofts are quite weak and the clubs themselves are an inch shorter than most other irons - thought about getting them adjusted, but really don't want to mess them up.

Just makes using rental clubs on holiday a challenge!

played under my HC for the 1st time in a while last night!

Headcover under left armpit on the range is the best pro tip I've received in ages - what a transformation!

Reminds me of Lee Trevino's quote - 'If you are caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron'.

I know what he means - my 1 iron has been gathering dust in the garage for the past 10 years !

smile It's easy enough off the tee, bit of a different story off the deck. It's great for hacking out the trees however!

If you've not had them loft and lie checked in a while, I can pretty much guarantee they will be all over the shop. My vokeys after 1 year of use shifted a long way (52* was 56, 56* was 59 and my 60* was 63)
I would at least get them checked if you haven't, you may get some distance back without strengthening the lofts beyond standard spec.

A friend of mine (club pro) is having a Ping week in a fortnight so I'll give it a go and get fitted for one if I like it. I'm a custom fit man as well.

I'm actually considering swapping out both my 3 hybrid and 4 iron for 2 of them..... if I like them!
Looking forward to getting it. I do love my 3 iron but hopefully this will be more consistent off the fairway.

When I was younger I struggled to hit my woods consistently, so I played with a Ping 1-iron which I could hit consistently off the tee and off the deck. That seems a long time ago!

Now I'm confident with hitting my woods off the tee, fairway or rough and my main weakness is with my irons...

Utterly ridiculous game of golf last night. Never hit a fairway, don't think I've ever driven so badly. But got up and down from 3 bunkers. A 100 yard pitch to 3 inches after 3 rubbish shots. And God knows how many putts hold that were longer than 15ft. Crazy, crazy game.

I love it!

Love this time of year.

Didn't tee off until 6 last night and still got 18 in.

Shame the weather wasn't brilliant and only shot 28 points but still an enjoyable way to spend an evening after work.

Yep, love evening golf!

Had another knock out match last night, lost 2&1. Had to give away 6 shots, and I even managed 2 birdies - both for halves!!! spin

I try to play after work where possible and usually just go out alone. Not a soul on the course at 6pm. Love it, but am always disappointed when I play a great shot and there's only me there to congratulate myself!

Oddly, I always play better in the evenings with nobody around. It's feels like playing golf as a free man.

Good going to keep it close until the end. I'm a bit worried i'll end up in bandit territory soon - 24 handicap but after a couple of lessons i've got a fair few decent holes a round in me.

On another note, I hardly played last year so haven't got an official handicap. Is it three score cards submitted which are signed by another member?

If you're a club member, you may well still have an official [CONGU] handicap but your lack of qualifying rounds in the past year means that it has become inactive.

If you have an inactive handicap, you are likely to be barred from entering certain club competitions.

If this is the case, you'll need to submit 3 qualifying or supplementary scores to re-activate your handicap.

Note that supplementary scores are subject to certain rules - it's not just a case of returning cards from random rounds.

Interesting, I'd always considered having them adjusted but didn't realise they could go so far out. Going to have to look into this when I get back from holiday.

Going to Marbella for a few days on a holiday I won with work, got two rounds booked at the below, looks pretty nice I must admit. The OH isn't too happy the clubs are coming with us (especially as it means we can only take one suitcase) but she's got Spa treatments etc to keep her happy whilst I'm playing. Can;t wait!

Don't hit driver off the first. Its too much club. Long iron or hybrid at most and don't try and cut the dogleg on the 8th, you won't make it and just loose your ball.
Its a nice course, been a while since I last played it. They've spent ALOT of money on it recently so hopefully it'll be in good order

I was giving 10 shots last week in a knockout. I was never up in the match once, I was 3 down at one point but dug in and got it back to 1 down on the 18th tee. Won the 18th to take it to extra holes. Eventually lost it on the 21st hole after a very unlucky bounce from a sprinkler head kicked me behind a tree.
Still it was a bloody good match and you can't win them all.

Played yesterday and came second with 37points. It was terrible weather the whole way round but that tends not to bother me. It was good enough for 0.1 off the handicap and back down to 4.4 (lets see if I can stay at 4 for more than a weekend)

It's got a good reputation, came recommended to us.

Got lunch first as we've got a 1pm tee.

Thanks for the advice - local info is always good to have!

I was 3 down after 8, won the next 3 on the bounce to get back to all square. Ended up dormie 3, won the 16th and would have won the 17th but he managed to hole a putt for a half.

Still, good fun!

I honestly think match play makes you a better golfer. Win or loose. It really helps with the mental side of the game. Being able to draw on memories of coming back from big deficits makes you a stronger player.

I've been knocked out of 2 of the 3 matchplays I've entered this year. A singles and a doubles. Only remaining knockout I'm in is the greensomes.
