The latest round of free voucher codes have been given out by American Golf. If anyone isn't intending on using theirs I'd be more than happy to accept a PM.
In case you aren't aware, AG are giving out 3 free codes this year to be used on golfnow.com. As far as I can tell there is no price cap on the round so it's a good way to try some new courses, although the voucher only applies to one person, not a free fourball. I believe it's emailed to anyone who is an AG member which is free too.

Wow. Was your putter on fire or your approach shots?
I holed 6 footers on 12 and 14, and a 15 footer on 17 for birdie. The other 4 of those last seven holes was getting up and down from around the green. My chipping has been excellent recently, and is pretty much the reason for my good scoring. Short game is so important, and an easy place for people to drop their handicapMy play off the tee there looks horrendous, but the only really bad one was 16, and I got a bit lucky that it left me with a clear shot to the green. 18 was a terrible drive, but a hole where I know I can miss right safely, which is what happened.

Imagine what you've had scored if you'd left the driver in the bag
The three holes I made bogey on that back 9, I didn't use it.
I used it three times in the last 6 holes and was 2 under for those holes.
I did actually pull it out on the 9th, where I normally don't use it (tight and tree lined) and lost a ball on my way to treble bogey. I'd decided to take the Ping G25 that I've been trying to sell for a final test before I get rid, so I was putting it through its paces. I won't use it there next time... Pinky promise

Just been out for a quick 9 whilst the OH was having dinner with friends. Rather than drop the driver I thought I'd really experiment and dropped my 3 Wood in place of a 1 Iron (so I now have 1-9 and my wedges). Results? 1 Iron seems to go just as far as the 3 Wood and slightly straighter - but obviously a bit less forgiving of off-centre hits. However as long as you commit on the way through, it can be a lot of fun. Probably less so in December however
I've been having a few lessons but not had much time at the range of late due to a house move, currently in a stop gap in Buckinghamshire until we can complete on our purchase back in central Bedfordshire so out of reach of my usual spots.
I used my American golf free voucher this morning at a course near to where we're living as the wife was going out, very slow play (over 4.5 hours is too much) and let frustration of having to wait for ages at every tee get to me a bit but parred the last two par 4 holes to finish with a 95, par of 69. Really struggled with irons off the tee and some inconsistency from hole to hole but otherwise quite pleased with the score and how I finished.
Not looking for a pat on the back here, I'm very aware of where I'm lacking at the moment, but is that a reasonable score for someone who has been playing for about 4 months? I've tried to get some lessons in so I know what to work on and limit the bad habits.

I didn't break 100 for a lot longer than that when I first started playing regularly. I play with a guy who's been playing for about 3 years, and he's still shooting over 100 about half the time.
Keep going with the lessons and make sure you practice your shots inside 100 yards and around the green and your handicap will drop.
It was a very short course, a lot of par 4's were a decent drive and wedge or short iron in to the green so I don't think it's the most true reflection. I'll have a a couple of rounds on longer courses and that might be a better way to judge my progress. Hopefully I'll get a twilight 9 in at Luton Hoo in the week, if I can get round there in under 50 I'll be very pleased.
Considering upgrading the irons now I know I'll be staying with it, won't be going too expensive as I have a house move, refurb and impending child in the next few months. In one of the local clubs they do a fitting session for £30, considering doing one even if I get clubs online as I should be able to look at loft and lie angles and the shaft type and order accordingly. Looking at some of the Cobra stuff as it seems reasonable on price.

The Mrs has been taking lessons for a year now and at the start of August holiday we went out to play with another couple for fun and to submit a card to get her handicap adjusted.
French rules maens she starts off a handicap of 54, that's right, 3 strokes per hole.
We went to play a nice local course which is quite difficult so her playing handicap was even higher than that.
She can play a rasonable game, not long and a bit dodgy on putting.
The 4th hole at Bethemont is a LH dog leg with massive bunker on the bend, water and sand protecting the green.
She drives off badly right and into the trees. 2nd shot out of the trees and a good distance past the big bunker onto fairway. My advise, keep left away from water and sand, was ignored and she played over the water, in and out of the sand, up the green and into the hole.
Having taken three strokes and getting 4 strokes on this hole she carded 7 Stableford points.
Not bad for a beginner or should I say bandit.
