Sports & Classic

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. I'm just bought my first 911 (996 C2 Manual - info to follow) and would like to have it serviced. My closest Porsche Specialist is Sports & Classic in Nether Alderley, Cheshire.
Does anyone have any experience of using them? I've heard positive things, but wondered if anyone on here has used, or does still use them to look after their Porsche?
Any info much appreciated!

He has been going 10+ years and has a great reputation . (Both are hard fought achievements)
I only used him once, for a 993 that I had, he provided a great service, talked me through everything he had done, as well take the time to walk through his recommendations.... (Came across as a real genuine enthusiastic) ........and that was in the days when everyone still thought 993's were just smelly old Porsches

When I started looking for my 996 tt 6 or so years ago I gave Mike a call for some advice, he was more than happy to chat away and gave me some great pointers.
6 years later he still maintains the car for me and his service has been faultless, to the point where it easily justifies the 200 mile round trip each year.

Mike comes highly recommended on here for both his knowledge and ability to give a straightforward honest approach to servicing and repairing.
Over the years I have used his garage and felt completely comfortable in trusting him before I moved onto a different marque.
He takes his craft seriously. I've had numerous repairs done by him over the years, spoken to him over the phone for advice and also last year had a pre-purchase inspection on a 997 turbo carried out by him at a very reasonable cost which was particularly advantageous to me as I walked off from the purchase thanks to his knowledge giving me the ability to make a balanced decision which I didn't regret.
Danny and Johnny are also great people at Unit 11 Warrington.
Apart from those two places, use others at your own peril / caution.

Hi Ken,
I can see you have already made a decision, but just wanted to mirror others views on this thread.
Mike is a true enthusiast that also happens to be very handy with a set of spanners. I started taking my Cayman to him about 6 years ago and have been using him ever since. He's worked on all my Porsches, from the Cayman to the GT4 and the GTS. I trust him to give me an honest and fair opinion on all works. He's increadibly easy to talk to, uses language everyone can understand or can get as technically in depth as you want.
Basically I can't recommend him highly enough.

Mike worked on my first 911, a 996C4 and was always open and honest in his opinion on what needed to be done or not, especially following OPC assessments...
I have no problem recommending him and will be going soon for an off plan oil change on my latest Porsche rather than going to an OPC despite the car still being under warranty.

If you do a bit of digging, you can find out what people think, but suffice to say the positive opinions above mirror my own findings dealing with the firm. He seems to have a particular expertise on the 996/7 GT and turbo cars but, whenever I'm there, there's always a good spread of 'anything' Porsche on it's way in or out of the workshops.
Had been banging my head of the wall trying to maintain my 997 GT3 using Porsche Glasgow & Edinburgh. Had the car for five years, but past two years the car hasn't been handling particularly well and developed noises from the rear suspension.
I ended up biting the bullet, putting the car on the trailer and transported it, the 225miles to Mike for a check over. He uncovered many issues relating to both handling and the noisy suspension. Finally!
Mike is super thorough, leaving nothing to chance, so if you are looking for a cheap job and someone to cut corners he's not the man to work on your car. If you want the job done properly and for your car to be worked on by someone who knows the product inside out, then this should be your first port of call.
I've not had a great deal of seat time in the car since getting it back late December, but the drive home to Scotland up the M6/M74 was enough to know the car no longer wags it tail under deceleration, doesn't thrust to the left under power and rattle like a bag of spanners when braking over slightly rough tarmac. Happy customer.
Can't wait to get it out this summer for some proper driving.
