I think we should be allowed to rerun this innings just like a referendum.

Amir takes the final wicket - what a return to test cricket. Well done Pakistan.

Well, what a great test match this is. It'll be too much to get of course but they'll give us some hope first in true England style. I predict early wickets, say 80 for 3 or 4, then a century stand to give us hope, then a final collapse.
As predictable as night follows day.

Great result for Pakistan. Silly shots cost us. Still hopefully Jimmy and Stokes back for the next test.

Well played Pakistan, we don't seem to like Lords much as a team.

Missed Jimmy A in this one, Ball seems Ok and hopefully will kick on from this. Ballance I am still not sure about.

All in all beaten by a great Century from an old fella, and some 'mystery' turn that is beyond the wit of English bats.

Well done Pakistan. Consistent play won out.

I'm not sure Anderson was what England needed on this test. It was our batting that was woeful on both days, especially the top 3 (save for Cook's first innings). Too many out for dumb shots being tried and simply not playing a spinner who wasn't even moving the ball that much - eminently playable and they all got suckered in (bit like Iceland's throw ins at the Euros).

Stokes would have been more important IMO. Hopefully he'll be fit.

As I think gargamel noted, not hugely concerned about the series just yet. 2-1 should be readily doable. But the batsmen have to start pulling their weight consistently.

Was a good game of test cricket. Either team could have won the match.

Well done Pakistan. Could have gone either way, but England batting let them down, again.

Cricket won. A great test - which can be a rare thing at Lords. Unpredictable, really could have gone either way.
Feel sorry for Woakes. Leg spin continues to baffle us.

It looks like England over prepared for Amir and completely forgot about the other three demons.

Woeful 1st innings batting explicitly. That's when the match was lost. Although I don't know who else to suggest.

The bowlers (apart from Finn's first day, and some of Ali's) stuck to it very well. Especially considering their inexperience. And hasn't Woakes come on? If the bowling had been wayward Pakistan would have taken the match away. As it was the tightness kept England in with a chance. Also the crowd at the end of Pakistan's 2nd. Listening on TMS the audience were really willing Finn on.

Nonetheless a cracking match,

regards,
Jet

Great match, glad to see Amir back looking like he's learnt his lesson well, there was a good interview with him and Athers before the series began.

Nice celebrations from Pakistan at the end, should be a great series with the likes of Anderson to come back in. Bring on OT!

I can't see a T20 Blast thread so I thought I'd just say that I'm off to Lord's tomorrow afternoon to watch Middlesex vs Surrey and i'm really looking forward to it. That's all smile

You should have a great day.

My FiL went to watch Yorkshire against Lancashire and hasn't stopped talking about it since. A good, accessible way to get people into the sport IMO.

And on the test stuff...looks like the selectors have finally been taking some well deserved stick.

Hopefully Rashid will get another look in, and Anderson and Stokes will be fit...

I suspect Rashid as normal will join up with the squad and then be carrying the drinks for 5 days. I dont know why they dont give him a series, as he can be no worse then Moeen.

That's what I'm suspecting.

Hodgson-esque selection.

Confirmed.

England: Alastair Cook (capt), Alex Hales, Joe Root, James Vince, Gary Ballance, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.

Ali has been poor with the bat, doesn't offer anything special with the ball. I dont see why Rashid doesn't play especially when we bat so deep. I hate this notion of if you are a bowler you have to bat to get any chance of playing.

Hales doesn't look like a test match opener to me. Even in first class cricket his numbers are average. Can't see him lasting in this team for much longer.
