When test cricket cant' sell out on day 1 in England you know test cricket is probably fked in the not too distant future.
Don't think there's a problem with test cricket in this country as such just a problem with the location of this test. Shame as it looks to be a nice ground.
Test Cricket is still popular but tests outside the Ashes don't tend to sell out. Watched India vs England at Old Trafford and few years ago and the ground was half full. I wonder if the prices are a tad high. Read somewhere that England want between 40-60 quid for a ticket for this test. Why not slash prices and get the ground full.

One sided test.

It's got poor attendance because who wants to watch Sri Lanka fielding a poor side?

You could also remove the last 4 words on the sentence above.

67-5 not even one sided, especially when looking at the England tail wagging against that ridiculous field setting.

Correction 67-6.

Will they be following on again, by close of today?

I know they are a team in transition but what an embarrassment this Sri Lankan team are. Sure England have bowled well throughout the series but ffs the opposition batsmen should at least show a bit of spine.

It's been very very poor.

I'd like to see more overseas players in county cricket. It would up the standard and also lead to test series being less one sided.

Would help though if Tests in the North were only from mid June onwards.
I agree this series is pointless though. Not even decent prep for a weak Crim squad.

I used to go to test matches, but that was when tickets where £40 or £50 for a decent seat in the mound stand or Warner at Lords. Now it is £95

plus travel and inevitable champagne bill, it's getting toward £250 for the day out.

Tickets prices too high for these lesser teams.

Pretty sure Lords are still sold out though...

Sure it does, but that's because you can still take your own booze, and the corporate hospitality.

Not sure Sri Lanka would sell it out though....

Will we bat again? even if just to give Chef another five runs to his name and a few others a chance of a knock with zero pressure.

No we shouldn't bat again, enforce the follow on. Cook's target is to win the match and the series, personal targets should be secondary.

I can see some merit in it, as much for Compton and Vince as for Chef

England bowlers made to work today.

Sri Lanka could well carry on for a draw with the weather looking to cause problems, especially Tuesday.

Six down, will we have to bat again?

Well almost certainly need to bat, best option for England now is a bit of weather, some damper conditions, new ball and Broad and Anderson coming back on.

Ali, just isn't good enough against settled batsman.

10,000 for Chef 169 days younger than Tendulkar when he got there.

Simply astounding. I've said for many a year now that he'll end up top of the pile by the time he retires. Not as adventurous as I'd like with his captaincy but an absolute beast of a batsman to have on your side.

Jimmy has moved into the ICC #1 slot for the first time ever after his 8 wicket haul. Broady slips to 3rd.

Good to see he is officially the worlds best bowler. 450+ wickets for a quick is simply outstanding work.

Morning Sports fans

Well its the climax of a close series against the mighty but slightly fallen Sri Lankans. Cook and Hales looking untroubled.

Lords looks a picture in the sunshine, 356 - 3 by close
